Trying to figure out what LO needs. He's due to eat, as it's been 4 hours, and is giving all of the cues (rooting, sucking hands) but will.not.latch. So I guess we'll continue to snuggle until he falls back to sleep or decides to get busy
Will a nipple shield help? It's helped LO who apparently has a small mouth (everything is sp tiny so it's funny to me that her mouth is too small according to LC)
DD decided that she wanted to sleep for a few hours. (The rock and play is awesome. No joke.) I am currently doing her second feeding of the night and hope to go to bed after this!
So very tired! LO usually sleeps at least 3 hrs at a time, but tonight she's decided on 1.5 stretches between feedings and will not go to sleep between them unless being held. Going crazy over here!! Hopefully this isn't her new pattern!
LO is STILL awake. He will fall asleep on the boob and I will put him down for him to wake back up. He is half asleep on the boob now and I am trying to stay awake. Sleep LO sleep.
Same boat!
Yep. Been nursing for an hour. If Lo falls asleep and my boob falls out of his mouth, he wakes up and cries.

@Lemsa I've seen a couple different LCs about it now. They say it's hormonal and happens to like 1/200 women. I feel better now knowing why lo wasnt wanting to latch- she wasnt getting anything and I didn't know! I produced a little and then it stopped.
And now I'm in ER, 12 days since my c sec and I'm bleeding a ton. Fi said he would stay up with lo tonight so I could sleep, and now we are all at the hospital awaiting the dr! meh.

I wonder if they missed some of the placenta, I know that can cause milk production issues.

Ok, no joke, DS was just nursing from 9 until just now. I had to keep switching sides and changed his diaper during that time, but still. I just gave in and put him in the rock and play when he fell asleep on my boob.
I am terrified something may happen to him while sleeping in it. I know my sister kept my niece in hers daily for several months, but she was at least a month old when she got it.
Will someone with a newborn please help calm my fears about him sleeping in it tonight?
Lo (2 weeks old almost) sleeps in hers and our ped said it is fine. Obviously don't leave him in it for extended amounts of time but he will be ok!
Baby was wide awake from 9-12:30 and only wanted to be held. She would wake up every time I put her down. Now she is up for her first feed. I am dead tired. Last night, after her first feed, she would only sleep on my chest tummy down. I admit that after a while I gave in and let her sleep that way but was so nervous. I hope we don't have a repeat

Feel better! Also its good to hear the lc figured things out

Both my boys have slept it in exclusively since the day they got home from the NICU (or thereabouts).
I second this...I had high hopes for the bassinet but DS sleeps like a champ in his Rock n Play. The first night he was in it I checked on him a lot...but he's been fine in it!
So new to breast feeding up for the third feeding of the night, I get terrible period cramps mid way through each feeding. I really hope that goes away soon cause it makes it so hard to bond with LO.
It's 5:40am here and I had my sweet baby girl a few hours ago at 2:18!!! I am so in love. Daddy and baby are both sleeping and I know I should be too but I can't stop staring at her. Ill write it all up in an announcement in the next couple days but wanted to thank you all for the support, snark and community over the last 9 months. Yay for August 13 babies!
Thank you everyone! We are leaving now. Apparently, my uterus is on it's final stage of contracting and I guess some people experience "chunk" like blood when it is happening. They gave me a prescription to slow the bleeding down so it isn't all happening at once like it was. I'm very relieved that it is "just" that and nothing more. I had no idea that that could even happen!
Baby is being a LAZY eater. At 10 he ate about 15 mins on each side plus an ounce of formula. 5.5 hours later he ate maybe 5-7 mins on each side and would fall asleep and didn't re-engage. Hopefully we still get a decent stretch of sleep..
Just got done with another feeding. It went better than the last one. I've been engorged & have a forceful let-down, so we're trying new positions & patience. Going to try & get more rest now.
Fed LO final feed at 11 and then Was up once last night and again around 6:30. Does anyone else have a loud baby? She sleeps beside me in the bassinet and grunts and groans all night. It's driving me bonkers!!!!

DS is a grunter too. I'm thinking about just moving him to his room but I'm just not there yet! So I've been wearing ear plugs. I still hear him when he cries but it blocks out the littler noises which makes me sleep so much better!
There was a 4 hr stretch and I needed to pump since ds wasn't waking up. Of course, mid pumping, he wakes up, so I had dh change his diaper and came back to start nursing on one side and continue pumping on the other. It was awkward, but we did it. When I switched sides I stopped pumping and I still managed to get 2oz and a satisfied nursing session in.
Wtf lo? Latch, suck, unlatch, root furiously. Over and over. Don't try a d tell me there is nothing in there because I'm painfully engorged. I've never had let down issues, either. What gives?

If you've tried all of the basic "keep your baby awake while nursing" tactics like rubbing their head, hands, feet, etc, undressing them, rubbing their cheek and under their chin, moving your boob / nipple around while latched, then try a baby sit-up. Hold LO with their head in your palm and body along your forearm and dip them backwards. It should startle them awake.
All my boys were v sleepy, v lazy eaters in the beginning and these are the tricks I've picked up from the nurses helping me to get them to eat.
Also, why are you giving formula at the end of a 30min nursing session? 30min is a good amount of time to nurse at this point.
Woke up to my boobs killing me!! No wonder LO slept for 8 hours and was still sleeping when I got up. So I ended up pumping one side and got 3 ounces in less than 10 minutes. Now LO is awake and she is now eating off the other boob. Sweet relief!
Just got back from babies r us. Got a baby monitor. Yay!! Then went to subway. Uhhh it felt good getting out if the house! Now LO is latched on and DH and I are going to continue watching "breaking bad" I know I'm late but my BIL told me all about it so I tuned in on Netflix. So far really good, still on season 1. Now it's time for a Twinkie!!!
We started watching it too when LO came home...its addicting!

I tried all of them and he was still sleeping. But he went another 4.5 hours! So I guess he got enough.
I gave him formula because even after he ate he was rooting like crazy and doing all of his hunger cues.

I need to cry. A really ugly one, too. This whole inability to cry thing is starting to physically hurt.
@TurtleMomma Maybe watching a sad movie will get those tears flowing.
