I'm going to try... I think I can do it, but you never know. I just hope I don't get pressured into things, I don't respond to pressure well, I usually cave.
I am not. I had to be induced last time when my water was "leaking" and will most likely plan for a similar experience this time, which included pitocin and an epidural.
I will be... we are 95% sure we are going to go with a home birth...
Recommend getting a Doula and also request a Midwife in your practice. Also talk to your midwife about requesting a natural friendly minded nurse when you go into labor. We had a fantastic nursing with DS birth... however I didn't go fully natural with him. I was on an epidural at 8cm dilated and needed rest (Labored naturally for 17 hours). I was at the point when pain became suffering... "If pain ever become suffering... I will do or request what I have too" was always my thought process going into labor.
If you believe you can do you... you will!! Keep a positive mind set when talking about natural birth with other people... it really does make a huge different. If you go into believing you can do this you will have better outcome. Research and look up different coping techniques. We used Hypnobabies with DS and it worked for awhile, but again I wish we would have had a Doula which would have been there to keep my focus. My midwife helped couch me through the contracts with DS when I was losing it with DH.
Also write up a 'Birth Wishes' or 'Birth Plan'... so that when you are in labor you won't have to explain to your nurse or midwife (hopefully you have met her/him before) what your plan or wishes will be. I know some people don't like the word 'plan' because every labor/birth is different and some items may not go a plan, but it doesn't hurt to have everything written down so that the people who will be attending you will know your wishes... I can share you my if you wish... https://birthwithoutfearblog.com/ ^I found this blog after DS was born, but it has been amazing! No matter what birth you plan/have this blog is empowering...

I definitely want to, but I am afraid I'll have to be induced again. Last time I was induced for HBP (well, sort of, I actually went into labor on the day of my scheduled induction and then was given Pitocin because I wasn't progressing fast enough) and I freaked out at the prospect of transition with pit contractions, so I got the epi at 6 cm. I have switched to a different doctor who is very supportive of low interventions. Of course I can't control everything but I hope I'll have better chances this time of things going how I would like.
I definitely want to deliver natural. I am really hoping the OB I'm going with is non invasive (I think that's the word) I do not want to be pushed into getting any meds at all. Unless of course it is absolutely needed. I will be bringing that up at the next appt to make sure they understand my 'plan'. I am going to look into having a Doula and I want to labor as long as possible at home. I know some might think its crazy to have a plan like this being a FTM but I knew I never wanted to be drugged up when I have my kid. Its just something I have always decided on.

I had very little drugs with both of my kids. No epidural- not because I was pressured and no one talked me into it, I just didn't want one. I trained myself with hypnobirthing (which actually works btw) and it went smoothly. Marie Mongan wrote "hypnobirthing" and it comes with a cd to listen to, it'll help prepare you for labor. It's totally worth it.
I will definitely look into that!

I would like to try for another natural home birth. I plan on renting a birth pool for this one as our bathtub turned out to be too small for a water birth
I would like to deliver naturally, without medication. But I'm realistic in the fact that if I'm unable to progress or its putting my LO or myself at risk, then I will do whatever is necessary for a safe delivery.
I was induced with my first and got the epi after the pain started to make me throw up. (Which I know happens in labor anyways, but it's also my bodies reaction to pain.) I also had an internal monitor for baby's heart rate and contraction monitoring which made pain reduction methods a little more tricky. (Could take a bath ) I ended up in a C-section anyways; and was glad I already had the epi.
This time I'm going to try for a VBAC if I go into labor on my own. Assuming labor progresses I'll probably try to go 'natural' as long as I can, but I'm not opposed to the epidural.
I am giving birth either at home or at a birthing center, so won't have the option of epidural or meds. And I really don't want an epi anyways. I did not have a good experience with it last time, and it was not worth the side effects and residual effects.
Also, the ladies planning on getting an epi or whatnot should still be learning some techniques for coping with labor pain naturally, as the epi does not necessarily work on everyone or every time, and there's not a way to know in advance if it will or not.
I will be going natural again, as for GSB you can have them removed the line as soon as the antibiotic is done. If I test positive for it I will have to find an alternative. I had an allergic reaction to the IV solution.

Also because you can be in labor for quite a while before you get the epi. Mine was 24 hours

I am a STM and the epi worked the first time. Don't see why it wouldn't work the second time.
I have a friend whose epi did not work at all on her 2nd (and did with her first.) So there isn't really a guarantee.

Not to try and start a fight but there are many reasons why something may not work the second go.. Just like those of us who had a healthy natural birth could end up with c-sections. There is always the statistical probability.
I would agree. What really started my drive to try to go natural was 'not to have a traumatic birth' after my DH's cousin told me about her traumatic birthing experience with her second child because her epidural didn't work this time around. I am glad she told me her story because it really made me start researching on how to not have a traumatic birth and more I research the more I learned that less intervention the better... which that also spiked a drive to learn copping mechanisms just in case I do decided for pain medication, if for some reason they don't work...
One thing I learned in from lots of research on birth is that most laboring women go through aFear-Tension-Pain Cycle that is VERY hard to break once it happens. I was in it with DS... when you tense your uterus cannot work to its best ability... which then creates pain... which then creates fear... and so on... It is best to have a coping mechanism or a support person to get you out of this cycle... no matter if you are getting an epi, pit, whatever...

1) Having never done this before, and 2) Being considered a vbac because of previous surgery,
I obviously don't know whether it will go according to plan or not. But I do plan to read and learn as much as possible beforehand to try to make it happen the way I'd prefer. I'm also planning to have a doula with me who can (I hope) help me cope and stay strong if it gets difficult. And like someone else posted, I am pretty stubborn so the more people tell me "just you wait and see!" or "why are you trying to be a hero?" the more determined I am to do it my way.
Also: I hate needles in general and the epi absolutely terrifies me. I'd have to be in pretty dire condition to say yes to a giant needle in my spine. And I also have scoliosis, so I'm not sure I have faith in them putting it in the right place to begin with. (Yes, yes, I know these people are professionals, but fear is not a rational thing)

I'm not sure how it works with a VBAC. My OB told me they prefer to place an epi in case something goes wrong and they need to do an emergency c/s.
I really think I could do it without meds if labor was going FAST. Last time my water broke and labor was fast and furious. I was already 7cms when I got to the hospital, and honestly I didn't think it was THAT bad.
But if I am laboring for 15 hours and 3cms, i'll be getting an epi for sure, lol!
After 2 years, Injects, PCOS diagnosis and 2 IUI's, we were blessed with our beautiful twin girls! Baby Girl #3!
i will be a scheduled c section as per my doctor's recommendation. Also having talked to other twin mom's including my cousin and some friends, I think this is the best bet for me. I would rather have a plan going in and not try one thing and go the other route if the second becomes distressed. It is my preference, but doesn't mean all multiples need to do this, just the decision my doctor and I made.
I wanted to "try" going natural the first time around. I planned on keeping an open mind and thought I would go with the flow.
That didn't work.
This time I am going natural. We're using a birth center and we will have a support team in place so we can obtain this goal (obviously as long as mother and baby are healthy). My hospital birth was ok... but not what I hoped for. I realized that to have the birth I want, I would have to fight for everything that I felt was "normal." It was really a matter of choosing the "wellness model" that midwifery uses and that mindset clicking for me.

Oh I'm glad you said that. On my long list of Qs about VBACs, I didn't bother to ask about the epi. Will add that to my list of Qs for next appointment. I wonder if they can place it, but not run drugs unless you needed the C-section. . .

This will be my 3rd (and final) med-free birth! As long as there are no complications I will be delivering this one in the water like my last. Water makes a HUGE difference in pain management (the difference between DD#1's birth and DD#2's birth was amazing).

I am planning an unmedicated water VBAC in a hospital alternative birthing center. We're using a midwife and will be getting a doula. I'm very happy we found a place that offers water birth for VBACs and supports natural birth. The midwife said no one will offer meds and everyone will try very hard to keep me from them if I break down and ask. DH and I will be practicing phrases and techniques he can use to get me back on track if I were to ask. We're also planning to take a Hypnobabies class.
BFP#2 7/3/13. U/S at 6w4d showed 1 heartbeat at 127 bmp and 2 empty sacs. MMC discovered at 10w4d. D&C 8/27/13. Pathology showed normal boy. Missing our babies every day. BFP#3 10/29/13! Beta#1 at 4w5d - 2141, beta#2 at 5w1d - 7651! U/S 11/21/13 showed baby measuring 2 days ahead with a heartbeat of 127 bmp!
I had a med free birth last time, and I am planning to do the same this time around. I am open to anything that can happen during labor but, God willing everything goes well and we get a baby the good old fashioned way.
I went natural with DD--Labored in the tub at the hospital. I had a WONDERFUL nurse who had delivered naturally before too, so she did great coaching DH on helping me cope.
The idea of a needle going in my back terrifies me. I freak out when DD has to get shots (and the needles aren't even going in my body! Also, a girlfriend had an epi and it wore off....so I don't like the idea of paying for something that might not work. They don't give you your money back if you have to feel the pain anyway....might as well not pay for the additional Drs and nurses who have to be there for an epi birth.
Also, the ladies planning on getting an epi or whatnot should still be learning some techniques for coping with labor pain naturally, as the epi does not necessarily work on everyone or every time, and there's not a way to know in advance if it will or not.
Do you know of some good resources that we can look into in regards to handling birth? I will get an epi, but still want to be informed.
I did an unmediated birth last time so I don't see why I wouldn't again. I am a weird one though, who actually likes labour and have challenged myself to do it better this time.
