I had a great med-free birth with DS and plan to go med-free again. As a few others said, research relaxation techniques, even if you plan to get an epidural. You never know what could happen, and you might be forced to deal with pain that you weren't expecting.
I am! I did with my first and am so glad that I did. The contractions hurt like hell but when it came time to push I knew exactly when to and knew what was going on. The actual pushing didn't hurt and was a welcome relief to the contractions.
I want to go "natural" ( no epi) but know I'm a wimp. I'm not telling H about not wanting the epi because then he'd hold me to it and not let me change my mind. I def do not want to be induced though.
But as FTM I have no clue what will happen so in my eyes everything is a possibility and I will do what I need to do to have a healthy baby
I had an epi with my dd and will do it again. I was only numb from the waist down and she was alert and awake right after birth. The couldn't even feel the needle for the epi bc the contractions were so strong. With that being said, I think going natural is awesome!
I forgot to mention that I was induced but I really hope that doesn't happen this time!
I went natural with DD...ill do it again. The pain was excruciating, but after its over you dont remember it. It was worth it for me to have the experience and at the time, I remember wanting to go natural because I was scared of the needle in my back...but after child birth sans medication I dont think a needle anywhere would be nothing compared to giving birth. Ha! This time around I'll go natural because of the familiarity factor...i dont like change ;-)
I'm not sure how it works with a VBAC. My OB told me they prefer to place an epi in case something goes wrong and they need to do an emergency c/s.
Oh I'm glad you said that. On my long list of Qs about VBACs, I didn't bother to ask about the epi. Will add that to my list of Qs for next appointment. I wonder if they can place it, but not run drugs unless you needed the C-section. . .
Yes they can. My friend delivered her twins vaginally and while they INSISTED she deliver in the OR and have an epi placed, they didn't "turn on" the drugs. That's what I'm hoping for this time....if they insist that they place it. But again, i have a VERY open mind about this. You just need to do what's best when you're actually in the situation.
After 2 years, Injects, PCOS diagnosis and 2 IUI's, we were blessed with our beautiful twin girls! Baby Girl #3!
I will try to have the baby naturally. I'm being followed by a midwife, who will be with me during l&d. She will teach me ways to cope with the pain. I really hope everything goes well! If my life or the baby's life is in danger, then I'll be move from my room in the hospital to go to the O.B. ward. (This is actually the thing that scares me about the delivery, and this is why I want to have the delivery in a hospital rather than a birth center or home.)

Oh thanks for sharing! One of my fears is needing a C-section and then for whatever reason them not being able to do the epi and knocking me out. I will definitely ask my doctor about that as it might just make me less worried. . .
Not me! I've done it both ways and I say gimme the drugs!! They always say you forget the pain but I remember every single bit of it and, frankly, I'm terrified to give birth again.
Bubba, born Jan. 2007 * Sissy, born Apr. 2009 * Baby Sister, born Feb. 2014
I did an unmediated birth last time so I don't see why I wouldn't again. I am a weird one though, who actually likes labour and have challenged myself to do it better this time.
This reminds me of the Addams family movie where morticia goes into labor and is smiling.
I tried last time but that back labor proved to be too much for me. I plan to go in without wanting an epidural, but I won't be disappointed in myself if I give in.
For those who are afraid of getting an epidural, the IV is ten times worse than the epidural. I was terrified of getting one and it was nothing. Plus the anesthesiologist had the hiccups while doing it.
Omg, girl it's gonna be a walk in da park. Sweetheart have you seen "What to Expect When Your Expecting"? Dat girl just sneezed at dat 7lb baby just came on out. You got dis doll!

Have you given birth? It's not like in the movies.

Haha! Did you really just say "dat baby"? Dat's hilarious
Natural was my plan the first time and I got an epi after 19 hours when it just became unbearable. I never asked for it and only took it because they asked me. If you know you don't want pain meds, hire a doula (you need An advocate for yourself when things get rough) and make a birth plan stating that no one ask you for pain relief. Otherwise they WILL ask you and likely you will be vulnerable and cave. There's nothing wrong with doing it either way but theres ways to be more successful med free while birthing in a hospital.

I dont remember how it felt when I broke my arm. I do remember how my hips getting pried apart from DS felt.. I could relive that pain in my sleep. But, I enjoyed it.
This made me LOL! I sure as hell remember how it felt. The hormones released aren't meant to give you amnesia they are so you don't resent your child after child birth.

Well I definitely won't be sming lol, but I find it exciting and yep I am just weird! It is what I am most looking forward to, besides meeting my baby!
I don't think your weird! I'm excited too! And I figure might as well go into it optimistically. In a sense our bodies were built for this! I know it's gonna be painful, but I'm exited to meet my baby!

Use quotes damn it.
No need to be rude. Didn't know how you guys did that. Thanks anyways.

so you ignore everyone quoting each other in response, back and forth and back and forth?? is your head in a hole in the ground?

Try making sense..
try lurking and reading around, obviously you cant see that there are thousands of threads on this board alone where people quote each other in discussion back and forth. Likewise, If you did lurk and read you'd learn that flagging my post just beacuse you dont like what I said is an abuse of the flagging buttons.
Also, nice how your friend defends you then tries to delete her post.
I'm about to call troll because normal people don't irritate me this much and you and your "friend" are fishy.
Let me write it to you plain an simple. (Maybe you will understand)
1.) Ok, I made a mistake and didn't know to "quote". The kind thing to do is to politely tell me "hey use quotes." Did you do that? ....NO
2.) Instead of me being a jerk back, I politely inform you that I did not know to use quotes and say "Thank You" To which you respond in an uneducated way (besides the point), asking if my "head is in a hole in the ground".
3.) I flagged you not because I didn't like what you said but because it was mean, disrespectful and uncalled for.
4.) My friend edited her post to make sense so she sounded educated, unlike others...
5.) "Calling Troll"? Ok, go for it?! Your the one getting all irritated and bothered, I've tried to be polite. You've made this into something bigger than it needs to be.
My plan is to go natural-we'll be birthing at a birthing center affiliated and across from a hospital, I have a midwife and am hoping to have a doula as well, since I'm not sure how much help the hubs will be when I'm in the thick of it. I've also gotten recommendations to try hypnobirthing and to read Ina May Gaskins guide to childbirth. So we'll see how it goes and assess along the way, but fingers crossed for a drug free, intervention free birth!

I just had a recommendation for hypnobirthing. Have you read up on it yet?
I'm not going to try . . . assuming there is no medical emergency requiring a c-section, I am. You'd have to knock me out cold before you could give me an epidural. I'd be a complete liar if I said I'm looking forward to going through another natural labor (because yes, it hurts) and golly, I hope it's shorter than 40 hours this time, but I'm going to have another natural birth unless my midwife tells me it's impossible.
You can do this. Don't doubt yourself. Every woman has the strength whether she thinks she does or not. I'm not saying that every woman is able to have a natural birth, because medical emergencies do happen, but every woman has the strength for natural birth. You might not feel like you can do it while you're in the midst of it, but you can.

Second pregnancy- walking epidural
Third pregnancy- epidural that was continuous
I will shoot for the walking epidural again
