OB wait time

sitting here in the doc's office, just curious what everyone's longest wait time has been? I have already peed, had weight and BP done, but I have been sitting here in a room waiting for my OB, for going on an hour and 20 mins.... there's not even a comfortable chair to sit in so I have just been pacing.... ugh!!!!!

Re: OB wait time

  • My longest wait so far has been 1 1/2 hours! I was pissed, so of course my BP was high. :/

I've never had to wait to terribly long at my dr. But I did work for an eye doctor at one time and we had patients there for up to 3+ hours sometimes. I felt so bad for them and would NEVER wait that long. Sometimes you get patients that ask a million questions or emergencies, which is understandable. But the dr I worked for usually was just dilly-dallying around! So needles to say if you have to wait an hour or longer at each appointment it's probably the doc just messing around!
  • My old OB had wait times like that. My BP would be high and she was all concerned and had no idea why it would be high. She made me start taking it at home throughout the day and it was never high - cause I hadn't been waiting in aggravation for 2 hours!

Current OB, wait times have been ok. I usually take the first appointment of the day though. Even then, one of the OBs is always late so it's usually a half an hour wait time in the room. It's annoying.

  • Longest I have had to wait is 20 minutes.  And that was as one of the first appointments of the day.

  • My longest wait was 2 hours, and an hour of it I was in a paper gown. I was pissed and freezing!

  • The longest I've had to wait is 20 minutes as well. Usually there are no other patients when I go into the office. I've read that the best times to make an appointment are either at the beginning of the day or right after lunch. Mine are always right after lunch, 1:30 or 1:45. My average wait time is about 5-10 minutes.

  • Mine have been close to 3 hours.... We complained to him last time that we've never waited less than 2 so he said we get a "free pass" next time. We shall see how that goes today... I wonder how many others get that free pass. Is that why I wait so long?

I was forgotten about at a different doctor's office, it wouldn't hurt to poke your head out. Act like you have to pee or something!

That sucks :( My primary care doc is another story. I had to wait an hour and forty-five minutes one time, and I was getting ready to raise hell because I was going to be late for work. I worked at 3 and my appointment was at 1, that should have been plenty of time for the stupid doctor to see me. Once it hit an hour of waiting time, they moved me into the room where I waited another forty-five minutes...and FELL ASLEEP. I actually fell asleep in the chair. I was livid.

  • Wow... Today I didn't even wait long enough to get a text out. I think the longest I've ever had to wait was about 10 minutes.

  • With my current practice, no longer then 15 to 20 minutes. My old OB would be on call and have appointments scheduled. If she had to deliver a baby or two that day, she would be hours behind. I rescheduled several times because I would get there for my appointment and she would be over at the hospital.

  • We have two main OB providers in our community and notoriously long wait times were a huge reason that I opted for the OB that I did. I've never waited more than 5 minutes for my appointment, whether it was with the OB, midwife, or ultrasound tech. And when I'm early, I get called back early. If anyone left me in there for more than a half-hour, I'd be rescheduling and walking out. And no, you wouldn't be getting a copay from me, either. I get that obstetrics is totally unpredictable, but it's disrespectful to your patient base to double- and triple-book appointments, especially considering that most of them are using paid time-off from work to be there. Hell-to-the-no.

  • I usually only have to wait about 5-10 min max. That sounds dreadful and I hope your day is better after all that stress!
  • My wait times have never exceeded 20 minutes. I make sure I schedule my appointments early, and avoid Wednesdays. (They informed me it is always their busiest day.) I'd be so frustrated waiting that long!

  • The longest for me was 15-30 minutes.
  • My longest was 2 hours. My coworker who goes to the same OB said she once waited 3 hours but had to leave and reschedule because she couldn't wait longer.

  • The only time I have every had to wait longer than 10 minutes at my OB is when he has an emergency with a patient and he needs to run over to the hospital. This is my second pregnancy with him and its happened once. I didn't wait for more than a half an hour though because at that point he was in a C-section, so I saw his nurse who did my measurements, checked my vitals and did my urine test. If I had any questions, should would have had him call me.

  • Once I get to the room it's 20 mins or less. However in the wait room I have been there for about an hour before.
  • Longest wait has been about 40 minutes but the clinic I go to is in the hospital and I happened to have an appointment with an OB that was needed for an emergency c-section. No big deal. Usually I wait about 5-10 minutes.

  • I never have to wait, I see my OBs PA and she is awesome. Gives a lot of attention and time and always answers all of our questions. She even called the pediatrician I wanted to recommend us as a patient because they are not accepting new patients right now, and they called us saying they would love to see our daughter!

  • Longest wait so far was 45 min plus a little more in the room.. So about an hour. Usually I only wait a few min, sometimes I don't even get a chance to sit down.

  • These answers blow me away! My OB has a solo practice attached to a hospital so he routinely leaves for deliveries. Patients know to call ahead at their appt time to get a better idea of actual appt time. Even then, you're likely to wait for 1.5 to 2 hours from your updated time. My worst was when I got out of there like 8 hours after my original appt time.

My family doc though is always punctual.

Maybe 20 minutes one time. Otherwise usually 10 minutes or less.

  • Luckily, my longest wait at my OB office has been about 15 minutes. When I get there, they immediately have me go leave a urine sample and within 10 or 15 minutes, they bring me back. Once I'm in the room, I usually wait about 5 to 10 minutes before my OB comes in.

  • Almost 2 hours.  To be fair, I wasn't scheduled but there wasn't a single Dr available in the office.  I had spent all morning calling and no one answered so I finally just went in assuming it would be a wait to squeeze me in.  It was a follow up from an ER visit due to a major subchorionic hemorrhage (and I was still having active red bleeding.)

  • My longest was about an hour and 15 minutes.  My appointment this week, I waited about a minute and a half.  My place is really inconsistent, but I don't usually wait longer than 20 minutes.

  • My last appointment took about 2 hrs total. I was livid. They expect us to be punctual and respect their time but don not extend the same courtesies. I understand they deal with emergencies and unexpected deliveries but there should be a limit to what is expected of us.

  • Last pregnancy I had Kaiser and I would be waiting for 45 minutes in the exam room every time. It was miserable. My new OB has always seen me in under 10 minutes. Two weeks ago my OB had a c-section to perform so he couldn't make my appointment so a MW came in instead, again, in under 10 minutes. My OB then came over because he knew I was there and he caught the end of my appt and it was amazing to feel so important to him.
I cannot believe the wait times I am reading here. I would be complaining to the OB's and the front staff about wait times and if I've always had wait times like that I would have been hunting for a new OB months ago.

  • The longest wait time at my old OB was 1 hour 15 minutes when I was naked sitting in an exam room. No one came to tell me she was going to be late and I had to pull a sheet over me and go out into the hallway to find out she was in a c-section and would be there soon.

Yeah, that was one of the many reasons I switched. The longest I've waited for the midwife has been 30 minutes, but someone always tells me they're running late and they're generally late because they spend longer times with patients when needed.

  • First pregnancy I made the mistake of making an evening appointment and ended up waiting over 2 hours for an appt that was less than 5 minutes long. Since then I have never gone in the evening, only in the mornings, and I don't wait more than 20 minutes.  DH can't come with me most of the time since he's a work, but I'd rather go alone and not wait!

  • I was at the dermatologist once sitting in a paper gown for 45 minutes and I could her her seeing patients that came after me so I called the front desk from my cell and complained since I didn't want to have to get dressed and undressed again, I was so irritated. The dr made a huge deal that I complained, but hello, I'm the one paying YOU money. Needless to say I never went back. As for my ob, they have a few locations and one o them is notorious for hour waits, so I don't go to that one unless they require me to, which has only been twice.
