I do not get warm and mushy feelings about belly kicks. I am always happy to feel them since its reassurance my baby is okay and active, but I think it feels totally and completely alien.

Deduction of Maternal Points for me.

  • @AcaAwkward - everytime I see your name I start seeing or quoting things from Pitch Perfect.  Thank you  :)

I don't really have anything yet.  I'll see what everyone else comes up with.  My UO would only be relatable to folks here: I despise chai, ugali, and sukuma.  (All core staple food items here).  Ha.  I'll see if I can come up with something different later.

  • I am ecstatic about this baby and the addition to our family, but I'm not particularly fond of being pregnant. It's not even that I'm uncomfortable, I have no symptoms yet and my last pregnancy was super easy. It's just hard to wait so long/give things up etc etc. and we're barely at the beginning so it's ALL ahead of us lol.

  • I know we are still early into this board and everyone is excited, but I'm already so tired of seeing the exact same threads over.and.over.and.over. I wish people would read and scroll down!

I suspect this is not an unpopular opinion :))

My UO is that we shouldn't be complaining about not having symptoms. It's annoying and there are going to be plenty of symptoms later to whine about. And seafood is gross. Being pregnant is a great excuse to give for why I don't eat it and no one gives me a hard time about it.

But you can have seafood when you are pregnant. You only have to limit fish with higher mercury content.

  • I know some are trying to be nice and helpful, but I can't stand when some women feel they are professionals on all things pregnancy just because they've had a baby already.. Unless you are mother of 5 AND have your Doctorate/PhD/ experience of 20+yrs OBGYN, thanks but NO THANKS on your comments.. EVERYONE has different backgrounds, morals, experiences during pregnancy and are going to raise their children differently.

And btw, @pdilly2b I love Obama too!
And @MrsHardy12 OMG you read my mind, you'll find the same trend on every page! =)

I hate "unique" names. I know many people love them and find it a way to individualize their child, but every time I hear of a child named "Echo" or "Apple" I just feel bad for them. Can you imagine being a 40 year old and having to introduce yourself as "Echo" at a business meeting?! Flame me if you must.
Agreed! My DH and always say you have to be able to put "Attorney General" in front of the name and have it sound normal. That or imagine your son or daughter at 55 years old in a board room, in a suit running a meeting....yeah...

I don't know if this is UO but I am so tired of reviewing every possible health/beauty product for Salicylic Acid/ White Willowbark... parabens.. fragrances, etc. Basically, I feel like I'm trying to find the one product I need that won't give my baby a third arm. Organic products are not cheap, but I'm caught between my acne, my super noticeable gray hair and maiming my unborn child.

How do low income families do this?

They use products with those "evil" ingredients in them and their kids turn out fine.
Yep!! Or they turn out...well, they turn out. I used to work as a jail nurse, so I'm thinking of the more extreme cases (not the moms that used a zit cream here or there!). I relate to this one, if you look at my search history it's nothing but "is ______ safe for pregnancy." Basically making myself crazy over it. I have rosacea (was diagnosed at 24, unfair) and only been off meds a couple weeks and skin is already a mess. Just trying to think "this will be worth it!" Over and over. My UO; I am not excited about a little baby, or little kids; I am excited to have teenagers/young adults. I'm sure I will enjoy the stages, but I want to get to know the little person I made.

I hear ya. @rds51510 is hair dye without bleaching agents on the no no list? I honestly don't know, just curious for my own sake.

  • @RaeChay- thanks for your comment! :)

I don't have rosacea but I definitely have acne issues even if I'm not pregnant. I'm a huge exfoliator and never realized until now how many products have willow bark! ugh.

My biggest issue is that I color my gray roots every four weeks. I have black hair and it's really noticeable if I don't color it. If I want to keep this pregnancy a secret to the end of the 1st Tri, I will have to color my hair. Highlights are going to do nothing for my roots. Maybe this should be my UO because I'm sure most people would think I'm being vain, but it's something that makes me feel like ME. If I didn't color my hair, I would be completely salt and pepper. :(

I picked up some Naturtint. It's still hair dye, but perhaps is "better" than Loreal or Clairol.

Watch out, you'll be using unpaper towels and mama cloth before ya know it... Just kidding. We've used CDs from day 1, and I love them. Sure I like not throwing away so much trash but I use them mostly for the cost factor and the cute factor. He's actually in disposables this week because we're moving and I don't like them.

I CD both my kids and plan to do it with this one, just to save money. Another plus, never have to remember to buy diapers!

Yes, the cute factor is another reason. Basically what I'm saying is I'm doing it for completely selfish reasons. Not because I want to save the earth. Ha!

  • I always side eye when woman say they can't eat cheese while pregnant. One, it's only unpasteurized soft cheese you need to worry about. Two, unless you MADE it or one of your many friends from Europe sent it to you, all cheese sold in the states is pasteurized. Enjoy your cheese!

PREACH. During my first pregnancy, one of our legal secretaries would comment every day about the feta on my Greek salad. Lady, SHUT UP, and let me eat my effing salad in peace.

We CD'ed Evie solely for savings and cuteness, and I love it! :) I would never classify myself as crunchy granola, although getting into the cd "world" you might surprise yourself the stuff you'll try. ;)

  • I seriously side eye people who try to use pregnancy to get out of doing there job. Unless you are high risk or are put on restrictions by your provider. Your pregnant, not sick. I worked 12 hour shifts on my feet until I delivered last go around, so when people have a desk job and want a note to get out of work I have no sympathy. This goes double in the beginning of pregnancy..

  • I was watching a show on Shark Week last night and DH and I discussed how we didn't feel sorry for the people who were attacked by sharks because they put themselves in that situation. I felt bad for saying it, because they lost limbs. But, most of them were doing stupid stuff, like surfing in a spot that is known for shark attacks during the month they were in the water. Or, standing in shallow water surrounded by "nice sharks" and one just attacked. I did feel bad for the people who were just wading in the water and were attacked. I'm totes scared of the ocean!

I guess my UO is that I think it's annoying when people have so many opinions about pregnancy, parenting, etc. I don't care if you had an epidural or not, if you breastfeed or not, if you use cloth diapers or disposable, I don't think doing or not doing any of these things makes you a better or worse mom!
If you don't stand for something you will fall for anything.  It's perfectly okay to have an opinion on things.  People judge people, that's a part of life.  Do what you have to do and don't let anyone make you feel inferior.  I personally feel like I'm judged more for CDing, BFing, having med-free births, etc. because that's not the "norm" (at least in my circle of friends).  But I stand behind my choices and no one gets to make me feel guilty for what I do.  I've had so many friends make comments about how "lucky" I am.  They don't know the struggles I've gone through, just as I don't know theirs.

I'm confused, why would you do something environmentally friendly and then specifically point out that you don't want to save the earth?

It's not a bad/uncool thing to do something that's environmentally responsible...
I never said I don't want to save the earth. That's just not the sole reason why I'm choosing to CD.
