Infertility

acupuncture

I'm seriously considering doing acupuncture before my next cycle ( which might be next week) and I wanted to see if anyone has done it, has it helped and anything else to know.  TIA!

Re: acupuncture

  • I haven't done acupuncture (yet), but my clinic offers it specifically for infertility.  I've done some research and it is supposed to help a lot with the stress.  I say - go for it!  If you dont like it after a couple sessions, you can always be done with it.

  • I'm starting tomorrow.  My friend (who was successful with IVF #1) thought it was a must.  She said that it really relaxed her. I can let you know tomorrow evening about my initial consult, if you would like.
yes, that would be great!  I'm going to definitely to do it.  I am convinced it is worth it!
  • I absolutely love my acupuncturist.  She also is a chiropractor and does cupping.  My cycles have always been irregular and I'm not sure I ever  ovulated between going off BCP in August and when I started seeing my acupuncturist.  She gave me herbs and supplements to take as well, my last cycle was 30 days and I ovulated on CD15, couldn't believe it!  (this was confirmed with temping, previous cycle was 49 days with no ovulation).  Now we're switching gears to get ready for IVF, before she was doing treatments to regulate my cycle, but now she is more concerned with preparing my body for IVF.  I will keep going weekly until I ER, I will have an appointment the day before ER and I will have an appointment the day before ET and a couple hours after ET.  My digestion is also incredibly improved since I've been going to see her, the difference is literally remarkable.
  • I'm starting it 8/26 and hoping my IVF#1 will be done in September. I just feel like if I don't, and the cycle doesn't work, I'll wonder "what if I had...". Worth it to at least try. I went with a friend of mine who goes regularly for Rheumatoid Arthritis because I had an image conjured up in my head that it was some kind of wacked out therapy. Not at all. Very opposite. I'm excited now about going...

    GL!

  • I did it during stims and before and after my transfer, which resulted in a BFN. This time around I opted not to do it. I think I chose this because I'm trying not to put extra effort into this round because last time I did everything in my power and was really let down.

Acupuncture is certainly relaxing and I loved my acupuncturist! It definitely helps calm the body and mind, so if you are stressing it's fantastic. Does it help with one's success? Possibly. I would give it a try and see what you think!

  • I'm doing acupuncture and I think it's great. I can't help but think it must be helping. It's reasonably comfortable and relaxing, so why not give it a try? It's hard to know if it helps or not, since I haven't done any transfers yet since starting it, but I am pretty sure that I am a believer. Go for it! It can't hurt (unless you can't afford it), that's for sure. GL!

  • I love it. I helps me to relax and improve overall well-being. I think it helped improve my egg quality too.

If you do it, let us know how it goes. My doctor recommended it. I just need to pull the trigger and make an appt. It just makes me nervous.

  • I actually got off the phone from making my appt and I am excited!  The guy sounds really nice and works part time for my clinic so I know he has to be good.  I am nervous as well, as I am a bit of a needle phob but I am willing to try anything.
  • Those of you that have done it/are doing it...how long before your new cycle did you do it for? This guy recommended doing it for 3 months before a cycle... I don't have that much time!  But I am sure it can't hurt.
  • My acu recommends starting 3-4 months before an ART procedure.  I started immediately after my failed IVF which will end up being about 2 months before my next ER/ET.  I go weekly and she was satisfied that we'd have a good amount of time to work on my issues.
