Anyone craving something from a different state?

All day I have been craving bbq from the Salt Lick in Austin, Texas and creamed corn from Rudy's.  These are things that are not local and really are things that I won't be able to have for a long time.  So sad... Anyone else have these type of cravings?

  • It's rough when you crave something you can't have, and any local substitute would not suffice.  BBQ would be the same for me. I'm not craving it right now, but Seattle is NOT the place for BBQ, and I really miss the BBQ I get when visiting in laws in Kansas City.
  • I shouldn't have opened this! I had the best BBQ shrimp in my liiiife when I visited New Orleans last year. Then I also had some really amazing seafood gumbo..mouthwatering. Going on that trip ruined shrimp forever for me, now I HAVE to have it fresh. lol!
Maybe we can get someone from nearby to mail you some? Haha :) (NOLA ladies chime in)

I think all of my cravings have been from out of state lately. I was telling my sister about a place I used to eat when I was at college earlier today and it made me want to go eat there sooo bad! I've also been craving seafood from another restaurant back home!

Ohhhhh why did you have to mention them???

Gosh I miss that food too. It's been 4 years since I've had a sandwich. Capicola was my favorite, then roast beef. NEVER take the fries or coleslaw off, I say!

I could always go for a taylor ham, egg and cheese on a roll from NJ...can't get taylor ham up here. I do buy it when I'm down there and freeze it for when I want it, but it's not the same as from a diner or breakfast place.

    NY/NJ pizza. Boston pizza sucks.

    NJ bagels....so good.

Where is your favorite for BBQ? I'm kind of addicted to Oklahoma Joe's, but Lawrence has this little hole in the wall called Biemer's that has amazing sweet & tangy sauce.

Stroud's fried chicken and AE Party Dip from Kansas City.  We moved to FL from there about 2 years ago and can't find anything that compares to either of them.   :((

I live 20 mins from Rudy's and used to live 15 from Salt Lick but the only BBQ I crave is the pulled pork I grew up with in West Tennessee. I am making my parents bring me several pounds when they come down in September. You know Salt Lick ships BBQ? It's probably not the same as sitting there surrounded by the wonderful smells but it would still their BBQ.

There is no wrong answer. Matt's burgers are better, but 5-8 has other cheese options (I hate American) and 5-8 has a bigger menu.

ETA: I've actually heard that The Nook in St. Paul has the best of all 3.

True story about the nook. More than amazing.

Ha @rachelstauf! It's too hot there, no way! I have a personal vow to never go to Kansas in July or August if I can help it, so we were there in May haha. But go to Oklahoma Joe's and enjoy their ribs for me sometime.  Love their regular sauce too.

DH and I also went to Jack Stack though right by Union Station in May and really enjoyed that too. We had a date there 6 years ago too when I first went to KC to meet his family. Yum.

I actually went to their website after I posted and saw that. I was really tempted. I am thinking I might get the cookbook or some saw at least. So jealous of how close you live to my cravings :)

This is one that I indulge in probably once a week. Most of the time I just get animal fries. :)
  • Maduros & empanadas from Pambiche, pho from Ha Vl, and duck wings from Pok Pok, all in Portland. Plus roast beef with cheese whiz from This Little Piggy in NYC.
