I'm not entirely sure if this is a UO but I'm going to give this a shot. I think having a birth plan is a waste of time... I had one with both of my previous deliveries and shit did not go down the way I had "planned"... This time I'm just going with the flow, I don't freaking know if I will want pain meds or low lights or music or whatever until I'm there in the moment. I feel like if I don't sit and spend hours on a birth plan I won't be disappointed if things go differently than what I wanted.
Plus I have the same OB and she pretty much knows where I'm at so at least she has a general idea of my likes and dislikes etc.
I think having an idea of what you want is ok, but if your write it down and hand it do a nurse you just signed your c/s papers.
Really? I guess if you have a 5000 page very detailed plan about every single moment of labour and delivery I could see nurses giving you a serious side eye, but simply writing down some simple desires, whether or not they happen, is not going to cause the nurses to hate you. My birth plan has been the same for both girls: No epi unless I need it, No episiotomy, No vita K unless it’s a traumatic birth, Don’t break my water, Deliver right onto my chest, Delay clamping the chord for a couple minutes.
I do write it out and give it to them because then it's on my file and I don't get asked a bazillion times about pain management. Now if things got crazy none of what I have written would matter, and I'm fine with that. My first was a vacuum delivery so the nurses asked me if it was ok to give vita K. I agreed. I also allowed them to break my water once I started pushing. But having some sort of preference written out isn't a bad thing in my opinion.
I had a simple birth plan written out as well. Things like PP said, delayed clamping, baby to chest for immediate BFing, and no medical students. I was told my hospital is a nonteaching facility so not to worry. It was signed by my OB and he said it was faxed to the hospital to be added to my records. Come time to deliver and it's my OB's only day off so someone I had never met had to deliver DD. Within minutes after delivery I am having some serious issues and I find out he is a student and it was only his second birth ever. I am convinced my issues were due to his lack of experience and positive this never would have happened had my OB's fax made it into my record. I will absolutely be making a birth plan this time around, and carrying a million copies on me while going into the hospital.
@cara1024 & @ccip82 - See then it IS an UO. #winning I just find George to be super boring and think there are so many more/better classic names that they could of gone with. Not that I think they had much of a choice, given it was the Queen's father's name. But even Alexander is better than George (although I was hoping for James!)
Alexander is the middle name we've chosen if we're having a boy.
My UO is that I secretly judge women who don't breastfeed because "they want their bodies back". Flame on. Nothing to do with women who can't.
I hate when grown women who have no medical/psychological reason have abortions. My opinion is have the baby and give to a family who wants, but can't have, one on their own! If this is insensitive I am sorry. It just makes me cry. No judging on people who are in rape/pregnancy situations, or some terrible medical condition.
A little different than the other girl...

I also hate the moms & dads who can't afford the kids they do have, but keep on having more and more. Like this woman:
Haven't we had enough termination / abortion talk for one day?
