Glucose test with a gastric bypass patient

I am curious to see if any of you mamas know the alternative way the doctor will do the glucose test? Since I had gastric bypass I can't have anymore than like 14 grams of sugar a day. That drink would probably make me very ill, and I've heard people say that there may be a different way to do it. Thanks in advance :

  • I think there's a specific meal you're supposed to eat a certain amount of time prior to the blood draw.

Also, your doctor should be able to advise you on the test procedure for someone in your position.

  • I'm sure every ob is different but I have a friend who had the surgery and her doc didn't want her to do the gluclose test. She had to monitor her blood sugar at home for a few days instead. If there is a meal I'd much rather do that than the other options.
  • Thanks guys! I hope it's just a meal that I can eat. That would be easiest. And if its not, and I am not allowed to eat that day before my appointment, I will be so sick. Ergh. I'm hoping on Monday at my a/s my doctor will tell me what she is planning to do!
  • I didn't take it yesterday. Just monitoring at home now.
