Spelling your child's name weird does not make their name cool. It makes their life complicated and constantly having to correct people when it's misspelled. All because you thought it was a "cute" spelling. Stupid and don't do it!
I just saw two different people on FB that spelled their child's name ridiculously. 1. Alexander spelled Alexxander. "The two xx's are cute"
2. Jasmine spelled Jazmyn WTF
My name is Brittaney do you know how many times people have asked me if I spelled my name wrong when filling out paperwork? It's so annoying! Most people spell it with an a or an e not both. It has irritated me my whole life.
I agree. My name is spelled Lia instead of Leah. I constantly hear "is this spelled correctly?" or "LIuh." Instead of Leah. Drives me insane!
ETA: Though as annoying as it is, as I've grown up and met other people with my name spelled "Leah", I've realized how much my spelling fits me and my personality rather than Leah would.
Ugh, I'm guilting of this! I was pregnant at 19 with DD and stuck a Y in place of an I. Poor girl is almost 7, headed into 1st grade and is SO sick of telling people her name correctly. I feel bad! She asked me, "Mommy why did you not spell my name different?"
So yeah, from personal experience, I encourage people not to make my mistake.
ETA: I didn't do it because I wanted her name to be "cool" or "unique." I did it because I thought it looked prettier that way.
I agree. I don't understand why people think it is cute and original. It's not. Whatever name it is will always be the same name, but with a jacked up spelling.
I agree. People can't pronounce my name correctly, and usually spell it wrong. Ma.rit.za. You'd think it wouldn't be that hard, but I get Marissa and Melissa all the time. I gave up at one point years ago and just had everyone call me Mitzy.
As a teacher this is my biggest pet peeve. Ugh just spell it right so I don't have to teach your child some jacked up spelling. Thanks!
And by the way if I can't pronounce it right the first time NO ONE EVER WILL!
I laughed really hard at this! As a fellow teacher, I completely agree! I work in the inner city and the crazy spellings run ramped there!

Two x's are not cute. More than one x makes people think of porn, plain and simple.
I work for a school district and came across the name -- I kid you not -- Trixxii. The child is in ELEMENTARY school.
This is the reason why I wanted a simple name for my daughter! Everyone thought I would do a unique name or spelling of the name because mine is so different. I went through my entire life correcting how people say my name. I would always get called Anastasia, or even some of my teachers would just call me by my last name.. It's Antaisha; should be Antasia..... Thanks mom!!

Yeah, more than one x is not good. My DH said if our daughter ever starts spelling her name Lexxxi, she is grounded for life.
There are some European countries, I believe Iceland is one, that has a government department just for naming. You have to choose from their approved list of baby names - we need that here.

Lol Trixxii. She and Alexxander can make a porno together!
I don't even have a weird name, and people still spell it with a K most of the time. It really ticks me off when they're sending me an email, my signature is in the body of the email, and my name is spelled right on the "TO" section, but they'll say "Kathy" in the body. Makes me lose all respect for you.
once, at starbucks the cashier wrote Cathie. Speshul much?

agreed, also picking your child's name and choosing to call them by their middle name also a bad idea (as someone who has always gone by their MN I have very definite opinions on how irritating this is). I will add that it is entirely different if they later choose to go by their MN.

My SIL is Caitlyn but her nn is Kate. I felt so wrong to me for years, now I am used to it.
Growing up I always joked that I would name my child Grace, spelled Brittney.nbsp;Grace No, it's pronounced Brittney!!Although I would NEVER do this to my child. nbsp;
Haha. I used to babysit a little boy named kash
Where we live there is a large population of Russian orthodox people. I talked with a neighbor woman who's girls are named miashyla and vasalisa. I asked very politely where her name choices came from. Apparently they have a list of approved names for every day of the year. There is two to three names per gender for the day and you can pick from there. She got kind of sad and said she wished her doctor would have induced a day earlier with her youngest because the names for that day were much better. BTW she wouldn't tell me her first name. She goes by Rosie. She said her name was that bad
A good majority of people now days hate the misspelled trend.
It's funny that people think youneek spellings will some how make their child special and unique but really they are just added to one of the stupidest trends of all time. Not unique at all!
My name isn't even unusual (Kristin) but because most spell it with an "EN" instead of "IN" my name is constantly misspelled and has been my whole life. Even now at work, with my name right in my email address and in my signature, I still get "kristen, kirsten, kristy, kirsty, etc"
I made sure to keep this in mind when naming my kids because I know how irritating it is!

My name is spelled "wrong" too, but I think it's pretty. It's spelled Jaquelyn. Most people throw a "c" in there. I have spent my life telling people there is no "c", but it's really NBD to me. I like my unique spelling. However, one friend spelled it Jacklyn and I think that spelling it hideous--so to each their own.
As a teacher I have come across some truly interesting names.
Myking
Quante and Dante (twins)
Notorious (and he was)
BrieAna (I hate capitals in the middle of the name)
Jzanae (the z was silent her mom went into labor during a JZ concert-you can't make this *** up)
Courvoisier (after the liquor)

My name is Julia. With a A at the end. N ot an E. Julie is NOT my name, that is my SIL's name. I have seen people stare at my name on paper and still say Julie.
The worst was at my college graduation. The announcer looked at my card and said "Hoo_lee_aa" [like a Spanish pronunciation]. I was almost half way across the stage when I stopped, turned around, corrected her, and re_crossed [apparently I said it loud enough that everyone in the arena heard, lol].
For this LO, there really isn't a way to screw up Luke [Luuk? Looke?].

How do you mess up Julia? Those people are morons.

I can't think of a way Luke could be messed up.
This happened to one of my friends at HS graduation. Her name is Jessica. That's not hard-right? Well, the speaker pronounced it Spanish Style-- Yess-ee-ka. WHY?
I just saw two different people on FB that spelled their child's name ridiculously. 1. Alexander spelled Alexxander. "The two xx's are cute"

I have some friends on FB who spelled their son's name Alyxzander. GROSS why?!?!
My name is Carlie, and my whole life people have spelled it Carly. I still have family on my dad's side who send me things addressed to Carly Mae (my middle name is spelled May). It's not even a yoooonique spelling, but it's not the "normal" spelling, and it's been annoying my whole life. I also used to get lots of people who mistakenly misread it and called me "Charlie" at first. I did once meet another girl with my name who spelled it Karleigh, which is even worse. ><
That's why I chose Eleanor for my daughter. It's not a common name these days, so there won't be six other girls in her class with the same name, but it's classic, it's easy to pronounce, and we're using the traditional spelling.

At least "Lia" is a real spelling; common with Italian/Latin families more than anything. My friend was Leeah because her parents wanted to make sure it was pronounced that way. My other friend was Leah, and was told (by two older Jewish relatives) that the correct Jewish pronunciation was Lay-a," and she went with that pronunciation ever since.

Well it wouldn't be in the birth certificate. Symbols and numbers are not allowed in the US.

That sounds to me like the mom liked the name ChasTity, but due to dialect/accent, was too dumb to realize she was spelling it wrong.
Also, my "boyfriend" in 6th grade had the last name Love.

Just spell it in the wingdings font. That's youneek, right?
DH's cousin named her son Vincen Bambino. For real.
Another one of his cousins named her daughter Cashis.
