My doc says I have a great pelvis. What the hell does that mean!
I was told this too just the other day (when my MW was about elbow deep checking my cervix). She thinks baby is going to be on the larger side, and I guess my pelvis is a good size for accommodating that. Maybe that's what your dr meant?
Feet are super swollen. Will ice help with pregnancy swelling in the same way it helps with injury swelling? This seems like a really stupid question.
I don't think this is dumb. I actually find warm water does a better job for me, but some claim cool water bath is better. I'd try and see what works better.
How long will I truly bleed afterwards? I am 9 days post and I'm not bleeding all the time but it comes in spurts with a lot of cramping. Not too much online about it. Might call the nurse tomorrow
With DS, I only had heavy bleeding for maybe 3-4 days. Then I had some off and on spotting for about 2 weeks. That was it.
This makes me feel so much better about the postpartum days. I've been preparing to bleed for 6 weeks straight. :S

Some don't bleed that much. Some start and stop. I bled for something like 8 to 10 weeks. It would stop and start. It was annoying!

Mine are too. I haven't been able to tolerate ice on them, but soaking them in cool water has eased the pain when they get too full and the skin is stretchingstraining. I just put some cool water in a basin in the tub and sat on the side of the tub with my feet in it for a while.
I've been reading up on mucous plugs and dilation and I'm confused. Is losing your mucous plug a sign that you're dilating? Can you be dialting and not lose the mucous plug? It's not super important but reading things on the internet has me confused.
Wondering this also. I am 2 cm dilated, but have not seen my plug yet. Wondering if I missed it...
I was 2 cm dilated for almost a month but still had the plug..it popped while I was walking around after a 2nd dose of cervadil. but thats just me

This is definitely a 5.99 question lol. And it's more of a first tri question too. Anyway, if the 8week growth ultrasound shows a EDD that differs by 5 days from the EDD based on LMP, does the doctor change the EDD? I've read many sources online that said many docs will not change it if the difference is less than one week. Does it make a difference if the EDD based on the growth ultrasound is supported by an OPK so I know when I ovulated? I thought I cleared this up back in first tri with my doc and she moved my EDD to coincide with growth ultrasound findings but at my last appointment, she went back to my EDD based on LMP. Maybe just an oversight on her part and I will discuss with her tomorrow. Just wondering if any of you have experience with this.
To complicate matters a bit, I'm a vbac candidate with a baby measuring on the big side. The due date she has seemed to favor is July 13 which is based on LMP. The due date I may be pushing for is July 18 which is based on both OPK and growth ultrasounds. Thanks for any insight ladies!
For sure go off your first growth scan and OPK. When it comes to the VBAC if your OB starts nay saying, bring up that scan and the fact that you know when you ovulated.
I still really have no idea what a contraction feels like even though I know I am having them since I am dilated. How can I time them if I don't know I am having them?
You'll know. Whether they are like menstrual cramps, poop cramps, or back pain, they will come in waves. Starting out more mild and then getting more intense/painful and reaching a peak and then going back down again. Then you'll get a break and feel normal. Then another one will start.
Glad I read through for this response. I've been getting waves of lower back pain this afternoon...
But, can it just be BH? Do they affect the back too?
I haven't had BH so I'm not sure if you feel them in the back or not. But BH aren't regular. Real contractions with real labor are.

I bled enough to wear a pad for about 5-7 days. Then pantiliners were fine as long as I didn't push it. More activity = more blood for me.
ETA: Everyone is different though. I know some women who bled 4+ weeks.
Why the heck is a bloody show???? Like your worst heavy flow day or what?
Its usually mucus plug, plus blood.
When I lost my mucus plug with DD it looked like a giant bloody booger. Sorry that's graphic, but there have been a lot of questions. Some don't notice losing it, some lose it in little bits at a time. Either way, it's not a sure sign of labor.

seeing all these mucus plug/ bloody show/ water breaking posts is that making anybody else paranoid about ruining the sofa/bed/whatever? Should I be taking precautions against this? I mean we have a mattress pad on the bed, but do I need to do something else?I would never have posted this if not for this thread, I feel REALLY stupid right now. but maybe I'm not the only one with this question
It's not very common to have a big gush of water breaking. It's more likely to be a trickle, or to not break until you're in active labor. You can wear a pantry liner to catch any slow leaks.
You could always just put a towel between your sheet and your mattress or use those puppy pads as PP mentioned. When my water broke with DD I could actually feel the pop (I was on the couch), got up and had the tiniest little trickle. It wasn't until I was in active labor that I had big gushes of fluid.

The bright-to-dark red bleeding (heavier stuff0 usually goes on for ~4 days, then most women have paler, pinkish discharge that can last up to 8 weeks post-partum. As mentioned before, everyone is different!

Staying hydrated will help! Especially with the summer heat drying everyone out. Cool water certainly can't hurt, but the reason for the swelling isn't inflammation (as with injuries), it's sluggish return of blood to your heart via your veins (especially the big one [vena cava] getting pushed on by baby) and the fact that we hang on to extra water more than non-preggo ladies.
Hang in there! And if swelling is suddenly worse in your feet, or new in your hands/face, and/or comes with a headache and seeing spots/stars, new pain in your upper abdomen on the right side, def call your doc + exit this thread. Most swelling is normal, but pre-eclampsia is not.
Re: 5.99 Thread [By Request]
B/c the word is dilate? Pronounced die-late. Not pronounced die-a-late. Comes from the Latin dilatare- which means to expand.

I would actually use breast milk! Make sure you get a hypoallergic lotion like cephyl.

Breastmilk is the fountain of youth. Try that. I also suggest aquaphor.

My ped always told me to use aquaphor and not lotion.

Yeah--use a baby lotion so it's mild. I like the unscented CA Baby lotion. But what works great is Vanicream.
If you feel contractions every 10 minutes for days on end, is that real contractions, or possibly BH? They are consistently at that interval.
I didn't have contractions last time til I was in labor.

I would say they are real contractions and that you are having prodromal/early labor.
