I am waiting on a call back from the doc; what can I do besides chew Tums like they are M&Ms to get rid of heartburn? The Tums are no longer working and I haven't eaten much all day because of the discomfort and I am starving now.

Try drinking a glass of milk? The calcium may help with the heartburn, and it'll make you less hungry.

Thanks, I am out of work in 20 mins and I will stop at the store as I don't think I can wait until I get home and it seems the water may be making it worse at this point.
I've been reading up on mucous plugs and dilation and I'm confused. Is losing your mucous plug a sign that you're dilating? Can you be dialting and not lose the mucous plug? It's not super important but reading things on the internet has me confused.
I was over 5cm before I lost my bloody show. I didn't have the large amount of mucus with previous pregnancies everyone is talking about. With second water broke never notice plug or other

Wondering this also. I am 2 cm dilated, but have not seen my plug yet. Wondering if I missed it...

Glass of milk or mineral water- I find mineral water works great.
Also- in general noticing the spicy/irritant foods that cause this for you and avoiding them.
For me it's anything slightly spicy/greasy- no grease, no spice no meats. Yep, life is pretty bland right now.
If you are dilated, does that mean you're in early labor? If not, what constitutes early labor? I was reading in my childbirth book that early labor ( 0 to 3 cm) lasts approx 6-12 hours and I know myself as well as many others are way past that point.
Last time my water broke at a 2. I ended up with pit and an epi at 3. I'm sitting here at a 4. If I'm at a 4 and having some ctx. I'm 38w4d. If I went in would they keep me?

2 I think I just have to poop, but then I think, maybe it is a contraction. How do you really know the difference? If you end up pooping?nbsp;nbsp;
I think this too! Especially because of that show 'I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant' where half of them say "I just thought I had to take a big poop" and they have the baby in the toilet. I secretly worry a little I'll go to wipe and feel a baby's head lol
I don't think anyone is overdue yet, it's not yet July.
As per the mucous plug dilation questions, not everyone experiences early labor, I didn't with DD and walked around 3-4 cm dilated for 2 weeks before she came. Never felt a contraction before then. Then it was a short labor.
I think if you are seeing mucous plug, it means you are dilating and effacing. But just like your dilation, it may not mean anything as far as when you will go into labor. I have been noticing bits and pieces of mine 1-2 tsp size mucous chunks over the last week, and my midwife just said it means "things are changing down there". She doesn't do cervical checks unless you request them or she suspects a problem at this point.

It can mean that you are dilating, and it can mean that you aren't. You can lose parts of it and all of it. Unless you are having regular contractions I wouldn't look to my MP to tell me really much of anything.

Check with your doctor but Zantac at 150mg every 12 hours was given the green light by my OB.

My doc says I have a great pelvis. What the hell does that mean!
I'm not sure what that means, truthfully. Can you ask him next time? I'd be interested in his response!

I was told by my midwife and OB that early labor is from zero to five centimeters with regular, time.able contractions.

Am I the only person on this BMB to go overdue? So many have their babies already, and I'm still waiting. And all my labour signs have disappeared.
I don't know, truthfully. Seeing as how its not even July 1rst yet I don't think anyone is officially overdue? I wouldn't consider you over due until you hit 40 weeks. My midwife doesn't consider someone truly overdue until 42 weeks.
seeing all these mucus plug/ bloody show/ water breaking posts- is that making anybody else paranoid about ruining the sofa/bed/whatever? Should I be taking precautions against this? I mean we have a mattress pad on the bed, but do I need to do something else?
(I would never have posted this if not for this thread, I feel REALLY stupid right now. but maybe I'm not the only one with this question)
Nope. I bet you aren't the only one. You can get waterproof mattress covers for your bed and really if you are worried about it use puppy pads on your carseat! :P
I still really have no idea what a contraction feels like even though I know I am having them since I am dilated. How can I time them if I don't know I am having them?

Not positive, but I think they'd probably check you into triage, monitor you and see how often you're having contractions, see if you're making any progress, and then decide whether to admit or release you based on that.
I realize this is probably a really dumb question, but my aunt sent me an email about it and then when I looked online, I couldn't find a straight answer.
So, my aunt claims that sleeping on your stomach when you are nursing will cause your milk to dry up. True or is she full of sh!t?
Not sure, but I know I wasn't comfortable sleeping on my stomach while I was nursing so it didn't really matter anyways.

You usually need to be at least a bit dilated to lose your plug. But not everyone notices losing it even if they are dilating.
If you are dilated, does that mean you're in early labor? If not, what constitutes early labor? I was reading in my childbirth book that early labor ( 0 to 3 cm) lasts approx 6-12 hours and I know myself as well as many others are way past that point.
Early labor is regular contractions. But manageable ones--you can usually talk and walk through them and aren't super painful yet. Active is when shiit starts getting real and transition is somewhat like Hell I imagine.
I still really have no idea what a contraction feels like even though I know I am having them since I am dilated. How can I time them if I don't know I am having them?
You'll know. Whether they are like menstrual cramps, poop cramps, or back pain, they will come in waves. Starting out more mild and then getting more intense/painful and reaching a peak and then going back down again. Then you'll get a break and feel normal. Then another one will start.
I realize this is probably a really dumb question, but my aunt sent me an email about it and then when I looked online, I couldn't find a straight answer.
So, my aunt claims that sleeping on your stomach when you are nursing will cause your milk to dry up. True or is she full of sh!t?
I don't know if you would completely dry up, but it could hurt your supply. Like when women are weaning and trying to dry up their supply they usually wear a very tight fitting compression bra. So sleeping on your boobs is like compressing them. I'm sure most women can do it and be just fine, but I'm sure there is always a few exceptions.

Just because you are dilated doesn't mean you're having or have had contractions. Contractions can feel like cramping or uterine tightening that eventually becomes painful.
I asked my doc this specific question at my appt yesterday. I told him I had been cramping for weeks, but wasn't sure I had actual contractions. After he checked me I asked if that meant I was having contractions and not feeling them and he said yes. Now I am even more confused...

I put a garbage bag under the sheets for the last couple weeks of pg with DD1--I haven't done that yet but probably should. And then I kept one and some towels in DH's car so that I could sit on them when we were on our way to the hospital. My water didn't break on it's own, so I guess that's why I'm not as worried this time. But I should probably do something just in case.

This is definitely a 5.99 question lol. And it's more of a first tri question too. Anyway, if the 8week growth ultrasound shows a EDD that differs by 5 days from the EDD based on LMP, does the doctor change the EDD? I've read many sources online that said many docs will not change it if the difference is less than one week. Does it make a difference if the EDD based on the growth ultrasound is supported by an OPK so I know when I ovulated? I thought I cleared this up back in first tri with my doc and she moved my EDD to coincide with growth ultrasound findings but at my last appointment, she went back to my EDD based on LMP. Maybe just an oversight on her part and I will discuss with her tomorrow. Just wondering if any of you have experience with this.
To complicate matters a bit, I'm a vbac candidate with a baby measuring on the big side. The due date she has seemed to favor is July 13 which is based on LMP. The due date I may be pushing for is July 18 which is based on both OPK and growth ultrasounds. Thanks for any insight ladies!

I think this might be up to the OB. Mine doesn't change the EDD unless there is a discrepancy of 7 days. Can you ask your OB what their policy/practice is?

I asked her about it right after my growth ultrasound. If the difference is less than one week, she typically doesn't change EDD. Fine. Since I also have an OPK supporting the growth ultrasound and she knows I want to VBAC, she told me she'd change the date to the later one. This was back in Nov or Dec. At my last appointment I noticed she went back to the earlier EDD ugh. And I'm not sure if it was an oversight on her part.

My growth ultrasound showed a EDD 5 days earlier than my LMP. Because I am very regular my doctor said we'd just stick with the date based on my LMP. I have a feeling this can be very circumstantial.

Lol, I have no idea.
Two questions:
1) why is dilated spelled that way and not dialated? I spell it wrong every single time.
2) I think I just have to poop, but then I think, maybe it is a contraction. How do you really know the difference? If you end up pooping?

I'm not going to lie. I'm a little jealous. My doc said mine is really tiny and that she feels bad for me. Mobile sad face.
Bloody show term was mentioned in prenatal class and to call hospital, mucous plug was not.
Both are horrible names by the way, if you ask me.
