Infertility

Intro and question

Hi,

I did an intro on the third party repro board a few weeks ago, but have been reading here as well and thought I should do it here too. So here is my story..

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in August 2011 during surgery for endo. During that surgery, I had both ovaries and tubes removed and I completed 6 cycles of chemo in December of 2011.  During my follow up appointment with my gyn oncologist in May of this year, he cleared us for DE ivf and gave us his full support. My H and I are so excited because I never thought this would be an option. We have started the DE process and are hoping for an early Fall cycle.

Now for my question, which prenatal vitamins do you recommend? I know this is pretty far into the process to ask, but we have never been at a point before this when pregnancy was even a possibility. The np gave me samples of a bunch of rx prenatals at today's appointment and I don't know where to start.

8/2011: Diagnosed with ovarian cancer, ovaries and tubes removed

12/2011: Finished chemo

5/2013: Cleared for DE IVF

11/13: DEgg IVF#1

8/5/14: Grace was born!

Re: Intro and question

  • That's great you were cleared for DE IVF. I wish you lots of luck!

For prenatals I take Nature's Made and I used to take the Vitafusion gummy. I was never given specific instructions so I really just buy what it on sale.

Welcome and best of luck! I use prescription prenatals. I don't think they're any better, but because my insurance helps pay for them my copay is actually cheaper than OTC vitamins.

  • Hi fellow DEer. My RE wasn't concerned with the brand but he wanted me to get a prenatal with DHA. I take nature made.

  • Congrats for an opportunity you did not think you would have!  As far as prenatal, I take the Target brand gummies which I discovered on a recommendation from here.  They don't taste badly and no stomach upset with them.

  • Congrats on getting started. I'm excited for you and your DH! Feel free to post here to keep us updated. I take Rainbow Light Naturals Once Daily prenatal. I order them from amazon dot com and/or buy them at whole foods or the drugstore. My naturopath approved them, and the longer you take them the better in order to get a good dose of folic acid. :) Congrats again - good luck!

    PAIF/SAIF/Everyone Welcome!

  • Welcome and I'm so glad you have been approved for DE iVF! I use Walgreen's with DHA. I think any over the counter is fine as long as it has a high DHA and folic acid content. My folic acid is 975.

Five IUI 's and two 3 day IVF transfers and two chemical pregnancies. Unknown to me at the time was that I was hypothyroid and had endometriosis. All that heartache and money and I would have never gotten pregnant. Time for new RE. New RE found the thyroid and endo. I had another 5 day transfer in April when all 7 embryos arrested on day four. Transferred three morali and didn't conceive. Thyroid function is excellent now. DH SCSA came back perfect. Now for IVF number four in June 2013. I had two perfectly expanded blasts put back and five frosties! I have never gotten this far! Now to wait for blood test on 6/26. My heart is In my throat! Please let this work, BFP with HPT 7 days and 8 days after transfer.
