Wonky IVF Schedule?

Hello ladies,

We're trying to figure out the timing for IVF #2 (IVF #1 was a BFN) and we've run into some issues.  AF arrived yesterday and I'm supposed to start BCP tomorrow.  Under the current plan (long Lupron protocol), ER/ET would be the last week in July.  However, I was so confident that IVF #1 would work that I booked flights home for a mini vacation the last weekend in July.  I asked our RE nurse about this and she said I could wait one more month.  The problem there is we have another vacation booked the end of August which we cannot miss.   I don't want to wait until September, that seems so far away so I told her we were willing to cancel the trip home in July.  She just called and said she worked out a schedule where I'd be on BCP for 4 weeks instead of the 2 weeks they usually have me on which has me start stimming the end of July.  That seems very screwy.  We're 100% OOP and I don't want to spend all that money if we're already hurting our chances by screwing with my schedule even more.  She assured me that there's no difference between the two options and I would have the same chances of success.  Has anyone heard of being on BCP this long and your body not going crazy?

Re: Wonky IVF Schedule?

  • I was in a similar situation as you because their lab was closed the week I was slated to have my retrieval. My nurse gave me the same option and said one extra week on BCPs will not change anything. I was super nervous though because I have DOR and I didn't want to be supressed any longer than I needed to be. I decided to wait until the next month because I was worried that if it failed, I would blame myself for messing with the protocol even if in reality, it had nothing to do with it! My RE said that it probably wouldn't make a difference but I was still weird about it. I guess what I am trying to say is that I got the same advice that it makes no difference and they do this for plenty of other people but to go with whatever you feel comfortable with. You do to want to beat yourself up either way. For me, the break was actually a blessing in disguise from a personal perspective.

  • I was on bcp an extra week because of a vacation. It really is pretty normal. BCP just gets everything nice and quiet before stims start.

  • I was on BCP for 2 months and one week because my insurance took so long to approve us and my RE didn't seem bothered by it at all the only thing is my body would cramp so bad into the second month because I think my body wanted an AF so bad lol
  • I was on bcp for one day shy of 4 weeks. The nurse explained to me that it is much easier for them to keep you on it a little longer than stop/restarting etc. she said I could have been on it up to 35 days before they would want me to take a few days break. In our case I was on it longer while we stored up frozen sperm. I feel like it hasn't made any major differences in my calendar except we are a week later than originally planned. Good luck!
  • I was on BCP for almost 4 weeks. I did the BCP/Lupron overlap. I'm stimming right now, and should have ER next weekend.

  • Thanks ladies, that makes me feel better just knowing other people have been in similar situations.  I'm still a little nervous bec1ause I'd be on it 33 days, or almost 5 weeks.  I guess I have 14 days to figure it out.
