Old fashioned clothes bubbles, peter pan collars, etc. on boys are ugly.
Paying bunches of money for kids clothes is dumb.
There. Now I'm covered on both threads.
Im guilty of some of the above. Is it still dumb if it always gets passed down to another kid? Twofer?
I'm not amykins, but I always think getting an extra season or having it passed down makes it worthwhile. I still think the prices on some of these things are ridiculous, but I'm a sucker and will splurge on some outfits every season, therefore I find myself ridiculous lol. I get extra giddy when I realize that an outfit will probably still fit the following year.
My UO: When something sad happens (in this case the death of James Gandalfini), you can't say 3-4 sentences about the subject before or after saying "I'm speechless". You're clearly *not* 'speechless'!
-My son was born in April 2012. He pretty much rules.
UO: Adults should not use baby powder or baby lotion as "perfume".
To further this (and I'm actually gagging thinking about the smell of baby powder perfume)...
I think there are very few environments/occasions where it is acceptable or a good idea to wear perfume.
We went to see Tosh last weekend and the effing wench in front of me went for a perfume bath prior to arrival. My eyes were seriously watering within 10 minutes.
A tiny spritz for just a little scent is fine. But if your stank a$s is leaving a trail of smell whereever you go, you're gross.
OMG!!! The bolded 2000000 times!!! My boss drowns herself in the most awful stench everyday (different stench everyday) and I just want to gag. The other day one of my co-workers walked into our area and asked who was using nail polish remover before she realized it was my boss' "perfume". GAG!! And nothing can be done about it. Nobody (her bosses aka the owners) will say anything to her. You can smell everyplace she has been in the building for a good 10 minutes after she's been there.
Also, someone better respond to my UO, darn it. I actually thought of one that wasn't food or clothing based. That should count for something.
Holidays, yo.
What you didn't have a President's Day party and give your kids all sorts of little gifts because you know Lincoln and Washington would have wanted that! LOL!
I'm with you. I get so sick of every day there is a new "holiday" we have to get all excited about and decorate for and have sales for or whatever. Annoying!
Disclaimer....It isn't that I don't think Lincoln and Washington were important, but why do we have to have decorations and celebrations and whatnot?

Disagree. All of the higher quality clothing I purchased for my son was resellable. Once I resold it on ebay or at consignment sales, I generally broke even. Sometimes I actually made money.
I am not with the reselling. Donate the clothes. Pass it on...
lol
No.
My clothes, my choice.
If it weren't for people reselling clothes, DD wouldn't have much of a wardrobe. Although, I've paid nowhere near retail price for anything. Garage sales FTW, y'all.

Agree x 1 million on the baby powder smell. I also hate it for deodorant, And on babies. The smell of baby powder makes me gag.
I really hate cutesy euphemisms for words for kids. My kid says fart, not toot, etc. It drives me nuts when MIL or others use the cutesy words - and my kid doesn't even know wtf they are talking about, hah.
I also dislike most Carter's clothing because I cannot stand the writing/novelty. Bananas over mommy! Daddy's little man! Mommy's little hunk! Blech. They all end up as backup clothes at daycare, and I hate walking home the days they actually need to use the backup clothes, lol.

Holidays, yo.
I'll bite. If I get to take a day off from work, but DDs are still in school, you can hype up whatever you want for a holiday. I'm down. Days off from work rock!
I actually have one. I just can't get it up lately to read and respond to the family drama threads. Not the "DH is a d!ck" threads because I always find it interesting what some women put up with from their Hs and how immature grown men with children can actually be. But the MIL, SIL, 2nd cousins, SMIL, SFIL threads are just whatever to me.
I never read those, either. I got tired of them around 3-6 months when everyone was bitching about their MIL's referring to their baby as "my baby".
My MIL does that, but it doesn't bother me. It just means she loves her grandkids a lot.
I think I have a sensitive sense of smell. I hate most if not all perfumes and colognes.
Me too! I think this was my UO a few weeks ago. Nobody NEEDS perfume. I don't want to smell you from 6 ft away.
This might be partly bc I've worked in healthcare for the last 10 years where there's a strict no scents policy, I'm not accustomed to it.
Ouch, OP, that's a tough one. Would they have bailed you out if the situation was reversed? And I don't mean a brand new car or anything.
My UO, nice salons are overrated. I finally booked a cut and color last week with the owner of this nice salon. He has a great rep so I was excited. I walked out looking more or less the same with 5 inches shorter and a slight red barely noticeable. I wanted a big change and he talked me out of it. I bet a mall salon would have done what I asked. Would I have looked like a skunk in a few weeks? Maybe... I still say I'm not pleased and it cost a fortune. And he talked me into shampoo that was 27 for an 8 oz bottle. Sheesh!
I think it depends on where you go. I see a HUGE difference when I go to the expensive salon vs the cheaper salon.

I don't love those cutesy clothes either but I'd rather those than the ones with brand names splattered all over them, like Calvin Klein or BabyPhat.
Not sure if this is a UO, but my former boss used to argue this a lot...
Just because your grand kids are mixed, does not automatically mean you're not racist. Your kid chose to procreate with someone of a different race, not you. Don't preface rude sh!t with "I can't be racist because my grandson is mixed." Doesn't work that way.
I'll take it a step further based on my own experiences. Just because you are married to someone of another race and have biracial kids doesn't make it so you are automatically not a racist. Therefore you think you can say racist crap and then pull the whole "I have mixed kids and my SO is of another race so I am not racist" yes, yes you are.
I need an example of the racist crap said cause I just can't wrap my mind around this one.
(Being confused not snarky.)
In the case of my boss, she would say something about being nervous with a Middle Eastern man in our store, but she always added in that she wasn't racist because her grandchildren are half black. ...'cause that makes sense.
Or my cousin who says her kids are pretty smart... For being half black.

I am trying to think of a good example and can't right now. Her husband is African American and she has 4 children yet she always talks about that race and their attitudes about the world/their hardships etc. Then when someone calls her out on it she says, but I am not racist my husband and kids are black. I really wish I could think of a better example.

Seriously. Consignment sales rule. Around here, there's a huge one that takes place at a fairground twice a year. For around $100 (which I can get back in resale) she's all set for spring/summer and a few could work for fall too. I'm pumped for the Fall/Winter sale coming up in August. I am guilty though, of spending a little more (ok, a lot more) for one or two monogrammed items for pics. Totally worth it though, I'm a sucker for the ruffle butt bubbles.
And I find it hard to feel bad for someone who smokes cigarettes and dies of lung cancer.
I'm a cold hearted biitch, I guess.
Wow... I think smoking is a bad idea but my dad smoked and died from lung cancer at 37 years old. If someone had said that he deserved it or some other nasty comment I would have been really upset.
First we had eachother.5.27.11
Then we had you.6.16.12
Now we have everything.
I think people are upset that Tony Soprano died, and James Gandolfini is getting all the credit. DH texted me last night that TS died, not JG. Really?
I am not surprised that he had a heart attack. It is sad he died.
That made me laugh, but I think you're right. This is my first ever mobile post so I hope I did it right!

Consignment sales are too high end for me. I am in the thrift store with Macklemore.
I have major love for thrift stores too. I've never spent more than $5-10 on an item at a consignment shop/sale, most of the outfits I scored were $1-3. The $10.00 one was a ridiculously cute smocked dress that should last her through this fall, and should still fit next spring, just shorter.
My UO: I don't think every holiday should be hyped like it is. I think we're setting our kids up for a lifetime of overindulgence and expectation. Plus, I think the bigger holidays are losing a lot of their appeal now because the smaller holidays are so hyped. If you over-do everything, nothing is special.
not sure I understand.
What holiday's are hyped that you don't think should be?
I agree that if you over do everything then nothing is special but a HOLIDAY (MLK day, Fourth of July, Christmas etc) are "special days" if you celebrate every friday, just because "YAY it's FRIDAY, CAKE." then yeah, I could see the luster being lost.
I just found one apparently.
I do not like Melting Pot. Not at all
I don't like it either. It's like paying someone to cook your own effing food. No thanks!
I like the style of it, It's kind of fun, and makes dinner more of an event than a meal. That said, there are way better fondue places than the melting pot, for sure.
UO, I love Carters clothes for DS with the cheesy sayings and all. They have a lot of outfits without wording or logo on them too. He has a bunch of summer sets that are plaid shorts with a t shirt that matches and no script at all.
First we had eachother.5.27.11

I don't personally care.. .I feel sad for his wife and daughter that will never know him...
I have an inappropriate funny story about him from college and I wanted to tell it in Gravy's thread but it seems rude to speak ill of the dead.
I will forever and always think of him as Teeny Weeny Gandolfini.
Oh, well yea, I feel bad for his family and those who knew him. But the way people are posting about it (FB) you would think they were bffs with him.
I posted about his on FB. I don't care who likes it. No different than people going on and on about Whitney Houston or Michael Jackson. Those deaths were no more a shock to me than the 300+ lb man dying of a heart attack.
JFC, when someone dies of cancer and you knew they smoke do you feel the same?
Wow, it is chilly 'round here this morning.
Well those two were icons and had way bigger followings, so I could understand people making a fuss. And I can understand JG being newsworthy as he's an actor, but people are going on and on.
And I find it hard to feel bad for someone who smokes cigarettes and dies of lung cancer.
I'm a cold hearted biitch, I guess.
I totally disagree with the "hard to feel bad" part. I would be sick to my stomach feeling bad for anyone who dies of cancer for any reason, but it may not be a shock is all.
I feel bad for the family of anyone who loses a loved one. I just not be "shocked" the loss accrued.
When I heard JG died my first thought was, "heart attack?" ::with a sympathetic head nod:: not "Oh no, HOW?!... what happened?!
Re: UOs
As far as I know, they don't go to the casinos. They have no cash to spend in there.
Page 3 (or 4?) Thanks, DS, for the 6 AM Wake-up!

He had an 8 month old and another child. It's sad when anyone dies that young, especially when they leave behind young children.
And buliding off that subject:
When a fat person in their 50s dies of heart problems, although I'm sad for their family, I do always think "well... they were fat..."
I thought the same thing, then felt immediately guilty.

**re-post from the wrong UO because I didn't realize that was from Wednesday and totally agree, a post before midnight ain't right**
I don't care for birds, especially birds as pets.
My aunt had a two birds while I was growing up birds shatting on my shoulder every 3 seconds is gross, annoying and wrong.
My MIL does that, but it doesn't bother me. It just means she loves her grandkids a lot.
Birds are weird pets to have. Plus, I don't think birds should be in a cage.
agree
Johnny Depp on the other hand.... I'd totally make out with
Yeah. Might as well say, "he was fat, he deserved to die."
