I had a patient tell me today that her daughter knew her ABC's by the time she was 2 years old. we were talking about how much they learn at daycare.
DD went to daycare 2 days a week starting last July -Oct then went once a week now back to 2 days a week at daycare.
she doenst really seem close to knowing her ABC's ..in fact she sometimes gets mad when I start singing it.
does your LO know ABC's?
Re: does LO know ABC's yet
She can identify a bunch of letters- maybe a dozen? I wouldn't have thought to start teaching her those yet, but several months ago she started saying "k" whenever she saw a k.... I blame Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Since she showed an interest, we've been working on them, and she's caught on really quickly.
But she doesn't know the song.

She knows R for Ruby and we have magnetic fridge letters and she asks me what they are all day long.
That's about all.
Whatever. She's not even 2 yet. I'll let her learn it naturally for quite some time before I stress about it.
This was great for DD too! We also have used the preschool prep DVDs, and we have the alphabet in her bedroom like they have in school along with all the shapes and numbers. She knows pretty much all of them.
I wouldn't fret about it though. When everyone was doing the 18 month checkin, DD wasn't doing over half of what all the other LOs were doing and she wasn't even talking much yet. I was worried about her but all of a sudden she started catching onto everything and pretty quickly. They all learn at their own speed.

I don't think you have anything to be concerned about at all.
They aren't even 2 yet!
We have foam bathtub letters and DS can identify a lot of them because we talk about them in the tub, but I certainly don't go out of my way to teach it.

This made me smile, because dd says "Sebben" too, and it's absolutely adorable! She picked up counting quickly, and counts everything, including the number of feet I have over and over.
As for letters, she knows A and C, but that's really it. I'm not pushing her to become the next Einstein. She loves learning at her own pace, and it's more enjoyable for all of us. It's really amazing to watch them show off new skills though!
We're still working on the whole not screaming thing here. Ill be happy when he starts using words, abcs arent even on our radar.
Though, he can count to 3 but only because he hears me say it so often as a form of pre-discipline.
Lets answer this with the question
Does your child talk daily? No
My DD (who is almost 3) is just now starting on letter and number identification. We rarely sing the tradition ABC song, instead we're working on true identification. As in if I pull out the letter W she will go "W wah-wah W" She does know they go in an order and we have many books about that. But in reality organization of the letters into the alphabet is less important than identification and sound.
