June 2013 Moms

Also, it's Thursday. Anyone around for UOs?

I don't have one yet.  Let me think.

But someone entertain me, please.  I feel like the only one still left at work and I really don't want to do any real work.

  • UO?

I think the "ombr" hair trend just makes you look dirty and you can't afford to keep up a dye job.

That's the one where its all dark on top and light on bottom right?

Yes!! And where I'm from, it's super popular for women to dye their hair blonde on the top layer, and really dark underneath, so you see the dark layer like a stripe when you have your hair up. Again, it just looks like you couldn't afford a full dye job.

My UO - cloth diapering.  I know it's better for the environment, saves a lot of money, and the whole scraping-off-the-poop thing doesn't really bother me all that much.  It's the thought of being a slave to the laundry that I can't handle.  I'm going back to work FT at the end of October, and I don't want to spend my free time every night running poopy diapers through the laundry.  I do enough laundry as it is.

And I totally agree with the ombre hair thing.  It's not called "ombre hair," its called "go to the f'n salon and get your hair done properly."  One of my friends just got her hair ombre'd - she has almost-black hair and got it done reddish-orange towards the ends.  It's such a juvenile look.

I work in an elementary school and you would not believe the number of little girls that come in with this look.  What message is that sending?  It's cute to look sloppy?  I don't get it.

    Is that a trend now?

LOL apparently I'm old and not paying attention.

I don't know if they are worse than a mullet, cause those are BAD! But I agree, they are ridiculous!

Little kids are irritating me right now. Not all of them, just the ones that are sort of flinging themselves around in public spaces around my bump and not watching where they're going, while their parents look on all placidly as I try to get out of their way without kicking them. I am huge and not very mobile. Actually, maybe it's the parents who are irritating me.

Teenagers are irritating me too, when they roughhouse in crowded places where I'm sort of stuck and can't get out of the way.

Also, smokers are irritating me. I don't know why, but every third person I see outside is a smoker, and the older and more male they are, the more likely they are to be blowing the smoke in my face as I walk by. And they get offended when I make loud hacking noises that are only somewhat insincere. Though last night I was sitting outside the grocery store waiting for DH, and these two teenage boys came out with cigarettes, and I thought "oh sh!t" and then one of them yelled at the other one for lighting up too close to me and said "I'm sorry ma'am." That'll teach me to think uncharitable thoughts about teenagers....

I work in a high school, and we're lucky if the shorts the girls choose to wear cover their a** creases. "Hot yoga shorts" are NOT appropriate for school!

So I agree in your friends case, but I think sometimes with long blonde/light brown hair it works, mainly because normally hair lightens in the summer and darkens in the winter so you will often have variation.

Seriously! If the fabric is shorter than the pockets you probably need longer shorts. Of course, I think most shorts sold these days are nothing more than denim pairs of underwear with how much they cover.

and all of this. the cigarette thing kills me.  I was at a public pool and the guy sitting in the lounge chair right next to me just lights up. I'm thinking "come on! Not just for my sake, but there are small children and babies around, can't you walk five feet through the gate and light up?" That's cute about the teenagers though. They will surprise you.

I've seen the style but didn't know it had a name.  I think I was blissfully ignorant.  And yes - it is horrible.  I have a friend who is Thai (so pretty, straight and BLACK hair) and got the ends dyed reddish-orange.  She has not asked me what I think nor will I offer. But it's effing hideous.

Oh, and newflash, BLT - new motherhood has not improved your inability to come up with an UO.  Looks like everyone agrees with you Wink

This. Especially the kids. There are these twin boys on DS' baseball team, so they are 5-7 years old, and their behavior is appalling.  They are out on the field literally rolling around, walking on and off the field while someone is at bat, swinging bats around with wreckless abandon, etc.  It is a legitimate safety issue both for themselves and others and their parents couldn't care less. I know my kid isn't perfect and they all have their moments but at the same time I am not letting him put himself or others in danger.

It's the parents that suck most in these situations. The kids aren't being told to stop acting like asshats so they see nothing wrong with their behavior.

As for little kid shorts, I blame the clothing companies.  It's torture trying to find DD shorts/skirts that aren't trashy.  She's 9.  Who the F^&* is working at a clothing company deciding that little girls need thongs, padded bras, booty shorts, and middriff teeshirts?!  Just shoot me now.....

I only get judgey because over the past couple years my neighbors let their cats go from indoor/outdoor to outdoor only to feral to having noisy cat sex in the middle of the night next to my bedroom window.  It drives both me and the dog crazy, and if I see another litter of kittens under my shed, I'm calling animal control.  I'm all for indoor/outdoor cats as long as people can be responsible about it.  Clearly my neighbors are not.

  • Sorry to make mine all baby related but I'm still in the hospital so it's fresh in my mind.

I didn't like the epidural. I'm thankful for it because of the purpose it served in relaxing my muscles enough to give the baby a break and a chance to descend but other than that, it and everything that accompanied it, sucked.

OK.  Yeah...that's ridiculous.  It is very irresponsible to let your cats outside if they aren't spayed/neutered.  I think you should definitely call animal control over the kittens.  Let someone adopt them.

  • I think every single person should be required to retake the driving test every so many years. There are WAY too many people who are either ignorant of changes to driving laws or just terrible drivers who should not be on the roads.

I've had a bad driving week- on top of me and three others nearly being run down by a woman backing her jacked up SUV out of a parking garage while on the d@mn cell phone. So yeah I'm b!tchy about peoples driving.

    I'm sorry, mama :(

With mine, it made my right side so numb that I had to spend extra time in L&D before I could head to my PP room (like you could have cut off my leg at my thigh and I wouldn't have known).  And my left side could still feel pain, so that was frustrating. I'm going to try my hardest not to give in this time, bc I really don't want that to happen again. It was so awful.

  • Just my 2 cents on the hair color debates.

    A. I don't understand the ombre thing. Go all in, or don't.

    B. It's weird when I see obviously dyed hair. I don't mean to be offensive, but gingers are really obvious when they dye their hair (and why cover such AWESOME color?) and some nationalities you can tell right away because some hair colors just don't match skin tones. Do as you wish, but I prefer dyed hair that at least looks like it could be natural. I went mahogany in college, but red tones in brown hair looks natural (or possibly natural). I couldn't pull off real ginger or blond because of my skin tone, so I wouldn't bother.

  • I'm sure I am just hormonal and bitchy, but when I see posts from newbies with only a few posts total, announcing the arrival of their baby, I side-eye it. It seems a little strange to not post during your whole pregnancy and then all of a sudden come here and announce to us that your baby has arrived. I mean, I am still nice to them and always think maybe I missed some of their posts since I'm not here alllll the time, but it seems like there are lots of posters I don't recognize just showing up and telling us they had their babies.

Maybe I am oblivious and don't pay enough attention, or maybe I'm just being a b!tch. Just one of my random thoughts from the last week or two.

The sloppy part doesn't bother me.  The fact that these little girls are wearing shorts short enough that the pockets are hanging out grosses me out. Clothes are too sexy for little girls.  There are so many ways to dress that are funky and fun but not sexy... I just don't get what these parents are thinking...

On the same note, DH is a high school teacher.  On field day, the girls come in in shorts so short their butt cheeks literally hang out of the back.  And the cleavage barely covers nipples... Apparently no one in administration cares.  DH wants to say something but feels like he'll be viewed as a creep for noticing.

  • My thoughts on ombre (sp?): All I think of when I hear that word is the episode of Friends where Joey gets a job as a cologne sprayer in a department store. He's at odds with this cowboy spraying "Hombre" cologne who keeps encroaching on his "corner". And then Joey and the guy duel and he ends up spraying cologne in a customer's eyes.

/random recollection of a funny episode.

I have to "sideeye" this. I don't know how many posts you have to have to qualify posting your birth announcement/story on a June mom board. I guess I don't get it because I am also a "newb", but why should it annoy people? You don't have to congratulate them or even care, but it shouldn't bother you that someone has followed or not followed this board and is happy enough to announce their healthy delivery in the Internet world. This birth club is open to any June moms and will be continuing on as our children get older and hit milestones and people have questions/thoughts. Maybe this is a June mom's way of introducing herself to the board? I have seen several older posters saying things like this and I think it's very snotty. Especially considering the fact that it's the same people who *** about this that say things like "it's the Internet, and I'll do/say what I want and you can get over it!". How does this rule only apply to you and your snippy sarcastic comments and not to the people who are happy about their babies? Kind of ridiculous.

Aww you learned about side eye! And yeah, it's weird to go announce to a random group of strangers that your baby has arrived. Personally my "internet" world that will get the announcement is here (where I've been for 6 mos +), FB (um, since it started), and email. Not people who have no clue who I am. There's nothing wrong with thinking it's weird/non typical to wait until after your baby arrives to post- especially seeing this website is actually called "the bump" not "the baby" so the typical forum person likely joins during their pregnancy.

Congrats to the new moms and all, but again, welcome to the UO thread, where we say our opinions- whether popular with newbies or not Stick out tongue

Yeah, WOOOAH! I wasn't saying anyone isn't welcome and that they can't post here. Holy moly! I just find it strange when someone comes here and announces their baby has arrived as one of their first few posts. Of course congrats are in order for any new baby, but an introduction or an "I'm new here and just had my baby!" would probably be sufficient. It's just odd to me when none of us "know" this person and they are telling us they had their baby. Anyway, it's really not a big deal, just my opinion, and Riss is right...this IS the UO thread I guess.

ETA: And FWIW, jo27key, I recognize you and I wouldn't find it strange for you to post your birth announcement. You've been here and I believe introduced yourself and have contributed.

    Yes

I also found it strange when people would only post when they had a Dr appt the next day. Or when they found out the sex of their LO. So it's not limited to birth announcements.

I hate water! I only drink it because I am supposed to. I prefer juice if I'm thirsty. Before getting pregnant there were days I wouldn't drink any water. I want to be more healthy so I am attempting more water but it is not easy for me!!

I'm a water hater too.  I literally have to force myself to drink it.  I used to drink my coffee like it was water....a LOT.  Now that I can't have that much caffeine, I sometimes feel like I'm drinking nothing.  I try to force myself to drink H20 but it's usually 40-60oz at night when I realize that (A) I'm having contractions or (B) I realize I've had nothing to drink all day

Add me to this group! Before being pregnant it was always soda (which I know is horrible). I also just don't drink much during the day. Unless I'm eating, I never really feel thirsty. I try to force myself to drink water, but I know some days I definitely don't drink as much as I should :(

This is completely foreign to me.  I am so thirsty all the time, I just thought it was a pregnancy side effect.  2 recent events:

1 - a few weeks ago driving home I was day dreaming about all the stuff i wanted to drink as soon as I got there (water, milk, V8, OJ, etc.)

2 - Went to the grocery store to buy some milk for work (I eat cereal in the AMs) and when I got to my car I opened the jug of milk and chugged it before leaving the parking lot.

I am incapable of actually DRINKING anymore, I chug everything.  I can't help it!
