SAHM did you pump to build a freezer stash?

My DD will be 2 weeks old tomorrow and this time I will not be returning to work. So, I was wondering if I should start pumping to build a small freezer supply? I probably won't be leaving DD very much, but I guess I am trying to think ahead. Thanks!!

Re: SAHM did you pump to build a freezer stash?

  • I am building a stash. It couldbt hurt and I would like the back up.

I also find feeding in public difficult since I have large breasts and need one hand to hold his head and one to control my boob. That leaves no hands to mess with a cover that he messes up with his wiggling. I would rather pack a bottle on those occasions.

  • I did... buy my baby quit taking bottles at 4 months because I wasn't that dedicated about pumping and bottle feeding. I donated the bit I had and called it a day. It wasn't worth the effort for me.

I'm considering pumping to donate to a milk bank this time - but that requires health screenings and specific food safety protocols, so I need to plan it in advance if that is my intention. I might pump a bit (like 30 oz) for my own freezer.

  • I did but he decided he didn't like bottles so it was a waste until I could give him a sippy. I'm going to try to get H to give the new baby a bottle at night once he's a few weeks old just so I can leave for more than a few hours without worrying he won't take it.

  • Yep, I did. I actually starting pumping too early and wound up with a bit of an oversupply. I have 100+ ounces in the freezer and will more than likely donate if I don't use the majority of it before the time comes.

  • I did until I got too lazy, hah! By six months if I was out whoever was watching him could just give him rice cereal or applesauce so at that point I quit. I don't think I ever had much more than 30 oz in the freezer.

  • I built up a small stash of about 50 ounces. However, I stopped adding to my stash around 3 months because I found I never used it. Plus, on the days I am gone a couple hours, I feed baby and pump what's left. My lo usually only takes 2 to 3 ounces from a bottle while I'm gone, and that's if DH is lucky. Anyway, I would pump once a day for a couple weeks to get a small emergency stash. Then, you can play it by ear and see if you need more.
