Girl Name Opinions - 1 week to decide!

We had a name picked out for months and as of last night we might change it!

Marchesa (pronounced Mar-kay-sa) was our first choice. We realize it might be difficult to spell and pronounce but find it a very pretty and unique name.

Last night we decided we both like the name Lydia. It is much easier for people to say and spell but not as unique as Marchesa.

Vote: Marchesa Jane or Lydia Grace (or Lydia Jane based on feedback)

That was my first thought too!

I would assume with a name like Marchesa you were really into fashion because that is the first thing that popped into my head when reading that name.

Actually I sort of wish it wasn't associated with a brand. I think it is pretty as a name regardless of fashion. Kind of a strike against it really.

I'm in the minority here! I like Lydia, but I like Marchesa much more. When I was first reading your post and saw that name, I immediately thought- "ooh. not a name you see a lot, but so pretty." It has a "fashion" feel to it, but that wouldn't make it a deal breaker for me.

Whichever way you end up going, you've got two solid choices! (And, Jane and Grace are both good MN options.) Maybe wait until you meet her and see what your heart is telling you her name should be.

While Marchesa sounds much prettier, it is a title name (like Baron or Earl), so it falls into the nouveau riche category of trying to hard IMO.

Of the two Lydia Jane is better.

ETA: And i'm totally out of touch, I don't know the fashion reference.

Maybe I'm not intelligent enough to get the other name because I would pronounce it as mar cheese uh, the ch gives the wrong impression. Marquesa I would read as mar Kay sa. Still dislike it either way.
