prenatal massage was heavenly

I went yesterday for a prenatal massage, and I have to say, I definitely would recommend one to you ladies!

I was a bit leery of getting once since I knew a few ladies who had them a few weeks before their due dates and 2 of them went into labor early, but I spoke to my doc and he said that he didn't think a massage had anything to do with their early labor, plus they were all in their 8th/9th month.  And my back and hips were killing me lately, so off I went to a local spa.

They had a special pillow so I could be face down (the therapist said that if I got uncomfortable she'd have me lay on my side).  She worked a LOT on my shoulders and upper back, as I told her that was a stress point before I got pg, and now with my larger boobs my back has become incredibly tight and knotted.  And my hips and legs have been hurting a bit lately as well, so she really worked that as well (plus the lower back, arms, scalp, etc that are included in the massage).  When I walked out DH said that it literally looked like a weight had been taken off my shoulders and I was walking better.  Of course it made me so relaxed all I wanted to do was sleep the rest of the day/night, but I made it until 10pm before passing out on the couch lol

  • I am such a huge fan of massage even before pregnancy. It can really help relieve a lot of pain. I treaty self to one massage a month I didn't do it in the first trimester, but some women do. Glad you enjoyed it. I also see a chiropractor to relieve some of my back pain as well. So far the only time I have felt uncomfortable is when I am sitting at my desk all day at work. I truly believe it helps.

  • I'm very lucky, my husband is a massage therapist so I get massaged whenever I feel any issue coming on. I recommend massages for everyone, but make sure they are trained in prenatal massage. If you go to someone who doesn't know what they are doing you can end up worse and in more pain. Always check their experience and recommendations. Plus shop around, the massage therapist I like, you might not enjoy, and vice versa. They all have different techniques and touches.

  • I've never had a massage but my bridesmaids got me a pregnancy massage a couple of weeks before the wedding and I totally agree.  I wish I could have one of those neat pillows at home!  It was so relaxing and made me feel so much better.

  • I had a mommy-to-be massage a few weeks ago and it was amazing!  Pre-pregnancy I always opted for deep tissue sports massage so to be honest I wasn't expecting to get much out of it - but I was so wrong.  They used a table that sort of elevated my back and feet a la "craftmatic" and did my chest, shoulders and legs.  Then used a series of pillows to put me on each side and go my back legs and hips.

It was so relaxing.  I was knotted up in very different ways than pre-pregnancy and they were still able to use a decent amount of pressure so that I got real muscle relief.

I would certainly second OP's original post!
