I dislike gender reveal parties not because of the AW-aspect but because of the gender aspect. Why must we start imposing our gender stereotypes on our children before they're even born?? I'm all for celebrating a new life but I don't agree with all of the focus on its genitalia.

Perhaps because calling it a "sex reveal party" would send mixed messages to your guests.

This - but also, you can't reveal a "gender" before a baby is born anyways. You can know the sex of the baby, NOT the gender. As a wise person once said - "Gender is between the ears, sex is between the legs." I guess my UO is that it drives me bonkers when people talk about finding out the gender of their baby. People need to be educated on the correct terms.

I think Winnie the Pooh can be cute if it is done well and the Pooh related stuff is kept minimal. If the room is in soft pastels and plush fabrics with vintage Pooh characters as stuffed animals or accent pieces I think it would be sweet!

That said, bright colored WtP stuff all over the place is definitely ugly.

First let me say that as a person with a research background, I think proper funding for breast cancer research is very important.  However, I can't stand companies that profit from slapping a pink ribbon on something or selling something in pink to increase sales without providing any details about where the money is going, and how much.  I also find the slogans that sexualize breast cancer (ie "save the tatas", "I love boobies", "save second base") to be reductive and disrespectful to women battling the disease.  We don't need a bunch of people driving around with magnets for "awareness" - at this point everyone is aware of breast cancer, and I think the focus needs to be on prevention and treatment options for all women (not just those that can afford to access the health care system).

I'm so glad you said this. I've been looking for the right words to say this for quite some time, but I was afraid it'd come off offensive. You worded this extremely well.

I agree. Our nursey is WtP and although I might do something different if I were doing it again, I think it's a sweet theme. Ours is cream, light yellow, and sage green.  It was something DH and I both remembered from our younger days.

I don't like Winnie the Pooh-themed stuff either.  Although I did by a Winnie the Pooh Pack N' Play for DD - only because it had all the features I was looking for and it's gender neutral so I can use it for the next kid, no matter the sex.

I'll take this one further.  I don't like any character themed baby stuff.  Mickey Mouse, Minnie, Winnie the Pooh, any kind of Disney, etc.  Gag me.

I will say, though, that the one somewhat character theme I like is The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  That one is cute.

    Ditto!

Also, I was really bothered by how many women I know went apeshit over the movie Magic Mike. The posts saying "who cares about the plot, I'm going for the eye candy" particularly bothered me. I know for a fact that the friends posting that in FB would be hurt/offended if their husbands made comments like that about a movie about female strippers. If you and your DH are into strippers, that isn't my business, but the double standard on this issue pisses me off.

I'm not a wine fan either, but I found a red one I can actually deal with. It's sweet, but not too sweet.. and it is slightly carbonated so there are some little bubbles. My friend likes it too, and wine usually gives her headaches. If y'all are interested in trying here is the name:
