We had picked out the diamond and ring in March (it took FOUR two hour appointments) and I was getting antsy waiting. I was picking up that he wanted to wait for our anniversary in December!! I was also getting worried he was planning something BIG and PUBLIC. Our first kiss was at a Motion City Soundtrack concert/festival and I knew it had something to do with that. I was super freaked out at the thought of people being around for what I felt like I wanted to be an intimate moment.
...so...
His side of the bed is WAY more comfortable than mine (OLD spring mattress) and one night I decided that it was going to be MY side of the bed until he proposed.
A few weeks later on a Sunday morning he got out bed to go to the bathroom and came back to bed with the ring and asked. It was quiet, relaxed, and private....just exactly what I wanted. he then made me scoot back to my side of the bed, where I have happily been ever since
I think I missed the dramatic "this is why I love you" speech that would have come with a big proposal but it was perfect.
My family had tickets for a show in NYC. My husband couldn't make it, because he had to work over the Christmas holiday and this was Dec. 22. After the show, we went outside and there was a costumed character giving out candy canes and taking pictures with people who were waiting for the next showing. The character gives my niece and nephew a candy cane and then gives me one. As he gives me one, he started to hug me and put his hand on my butt. I was pissed, but I turned away because there were a lot of kids present. As I turn away, I heard my name being called by my mom. I turn back and the character is on his knee, takes his head off and is holding a ring box open. All I could think is "Why is he taking his head off? He is going to ruin things for the kids!". Lol. Foot traffic stopped on the street which is a bold thing when you talk about NYC. I'm not normally a public person like that, but I wouldn't change anything about it. It was very much his style. And I'm glad his sister taped it, because I was in such a daze I wouldn't have remembered any of it. It turns out he had orchestrated the whole thing 6 months prior when he bought the tickets for my family to the show.
This is so funny! I love that he put his hand on your butt!
He didn't do anything creative. My husband is very shy and very quiet. We went to a friends bbq one evening, and I noticed that he was shaking and drinking a lot of beers. I was exhausted from working all day, and was trying to convince him to leave so I could go to sleep. He kept wanting to stay. He went over and asked for the music to be turned down, and took me to the middle of the floor. In front of 20 friends he got down on one knee and proposed!!! I knew it was coming but I would have never expected him to do it in front of all of our friends. But it was perfect since that was where we had met 4 years before.
Mine isn't exactly what I would call romantic but it was cute. DH had hidden the engagement ring in our pug's jacket, and we were about to head out for a walk around the neighborhood. As I was putting the jacket on, DH was behind me on one knee. I took so long to find it that by the time I turned around and realized what it was, he was already standing up. We were both laughing hysterically and then stood there awkwardly for a few minutes. He said well? And I reminded him that he had forgotten to ask! He did, I said yes and the rest is history I guess.
He tied my ring to a christmas ornament and proposed while we were setting up our first tree together in our first house. He had bought the tree and brought it home as a surprise. Then we put the lights on and started decorating it. It took me a few minutes to get to the ornament it was tied too. He then dropped to one knee and proposed. t was sweet and I was glad it was just the two of us. He said the sweetest speech and I called my family after. To this day we set the tree up on the same day and my ring box is now an ornament too.
My husband had no grand plan for our proposal. He told me he was planning on proposing. He drove me around in his car for awhile and talked and rambled about all sorts of ridiculous nonsense. He then took me to a park and we took a little walk. We got to a nice little private nook in the garden and he proposed. It was sweet. He was nervous. I cried. Great memory.

H and his brother had just finished a 7 day mountain bike race and my SIL and I flew out west to meet them. H and I headed off on our own eventually and one evening, on beautiful Chesterman Beach in Tofino BC at sunset, he popped the question. It was sweet and romantic, we had the beach to ourselves practically - it was everything I could have hoped for and more.
Mine was totally not what I expected from DH because he's a super romantic mushy guy. We were getting ready to go out to dinner for his 31st b-day. I was being a biitch because we were running late for our reservations & I needed to get dressed & wrap his present. He was acting like a total weirdo & wouldn't leave the room. Finally I got pissed & handed him his present in the amazon box. He just laughed & said " All I really want for my birthday is this" then stretched across the bed & handed me the ring box. My response "Are you fvucking serious?" LOL
OMG that made me laugh so hard!
DH had taken me to pick out a ring in July 2004 because he wanted to be sure that I got something I really loved. I figured a proposal couldn't be far behind... man, was I wrong. My birthday rolled around in September and he still hadn't asked, so I figured that he would do it then as we would be in Vegas celebrating. Another big nope. Thanksgiving. Christmas. Nothing. I was starting to wonder if he had actually bought the ring at all! Valentine's Day was about a week away, but we never celebrated that. Imagine my surprise when he brings home one of those heart shaped boxes of chocolate. I remember thanking him for it and then laying it aside so I could watch TV. He got all nervous and told me to open the box. He had put the ring on the chocolate in the middle of the box. Looking back now, I realize that he never actually asked me to marry him, just kind of gave me a "what do you think?" look. Silly man. It was perfectly him though.
DH proposed on my 26th birthday. We had a party at our home and he had given me my present to open in front of everyone. It was a giant box filled with crap. He had given me cat treats, artifical sweeteners, sponges and other weird random things. He then made a speech and proposed
DH never proposed, we just decided. We were in my car on tjis mountain that overlooked the city where we lived. We just started talking about our relationship, and he told me he just knew I was the girl he always wanted to be with. We decided that night we were going to get married, got a ring a few weeks later, and a year and a half later, we were married. It's not the most romantic story, but it's very us, and I love it!
We were in college and were getting ready to take a trip to Florida in March. At this point, we'd been together for 4 years and so I was thinking that maybe he would propose on our trip, although I wasn't sure.
On Valentine's Day, we had planned on going to the lake in the town where we both lived, and then going out to dinner. We have never made a big deal about Valentine's Day so I really was not expecting anything. My roommate (who knew about his plans) insisted that I go get my makeup done with her that day, which I thought was ridiculous, but I did. Because of that, we were running out of time to go to the lake, but he kept insisting that we HAD to go. I finally caved and we went.
While we were there, we sat on a bench overlooking the lake. I gave him his gift - one of those little box kits they sell at the book store for making sushi. He then pulls out his guitar (he had never played before - he learned the song just for the occasion) and sang me "our" song. Then he got down on one knee and proposed. It was so sweet. Afterward, he said "I didn't give you your Valentine's Day gift yet." I was confused, of course, since I already had a ring. He gave me a gift bag filled with all of the bridal magazines that were out at the time. It was so sweet and thoughtful! I loved it!
Mine isn't anything romantic, but I enjoyed it. We went out to dinner downtown and afterwards took a walk along the river front. It was icy and cold....but I remember saying something like "Oh I hope we don't see any bodies floating in the river LOL." He then opened the box and asked me to marry him. He didn't get on one knee either because it was wet and slushy.

Mine proposed on our two year anniversary, which was on Valentine's Day. We had gone ring shopping a couple weeks earlier to see what types of rings I liked. I was basically almost certain he was going to propose that night. While at work on Valentine's Day, he sent me a text asking me if I could take off the next day. I of course was able to.
We went to the casino to have dinner at Maker's Mark and after dinner we were playing some slots. After awhile, we started to walk around. He got down on one knee and asked me. I of course said yes, and then it was off to the bar to have a drink!

DH didn't propose, I did. I had it all planned out. We were going rock climbing on these really pretty cliffs. My plan was to ask out there, but I chickened out. It seemed like every time I had enough courage, he was belaying or I was and it seemed a little dangerous. That night we were talking in bed before going to sleep and I just asked him. He got really quiet and started crying but did say yes. It was at 12:05 on Mother's Day in 2010.
DH recreated our first date and proposed during dessert. I was not expecting it at all bc it was 2 days after Christmas and figured if he didn't do it on Christmas, it was going to be a while before he proposed. He was very sneaky!
We went for a walk along the river and he pointed out something that was attached to one of the trees. It was facing away from us so I went to check it out and is was a hard carved sign that said "(name) will you marry me?". Then he got down on one knee in the snow. The sign is now hanging in our bedroom.
My brother and his (then) girlfriend had been together for 4 months when he proposed while Nick and I had been together for 4 years. So I emailed him a picture of my "ideal" ring with a message that said "If you were to propose in the near future, this is what I'd like"......my not so subtle hint lol (douche move on my part I realize) My birthday and our dating "anniversary" had gone by with nothing so I was starting to get a little irritated. I was planning a visit around Christmas time (we lived 200 miles apart at that time) and he called to ask what size of ring I wore.....so of course I knew! When I arrived for my visit, I got all settled in and we finally decided we were going to go out and grab some grub from Arby's... I was putting my shoes on when he said "Hey Melissa... I need to ask you something.." I responded with "Okay....." but he didn't say anything for quite a while so I turned around to see what his deal was. He was on one knee with the ring (which looked exactly like what I'd hoped for hehe) and popped the question. He was so nervous which was cute. Not sure why I was in such a rush to get engaged because we ended up being that way for another nearly 3 years before we actually got hitched. :P
Hahaha, my husband and I were actually broken up (he said he never wanted to get married after being together for 5 years so I dumped him) and he showed up in the rain with a ring.
DH hid the ring box under my motorcycle cover. We were headed out for a ride and when I took the cover off it was sitting on the seat. Needless to say I was too excited to go for a ride after that.
DH moved back home to Puerto Rico while we were still just friends and once we started dating, he and I dated long distance from SC to Puerto Rico. He had always wanted to propose by the ocean.
He came to the states to visit me and ask my parents who live in Florida for permission to marry me. Not far from their house is an old Spanish fort on the water just like the one in Puerto Rico. He walked to the fort with me and told me that the long distance relationship wasn't working anymore. Then, he got on one knee and proposed! Now we have moved to Florida and I drive by that fort all the time and it always reminds me of that. :
We were on my family's annual vacation in Canada. He dragged me out on the boat at 6:30am for some morning fishing..
Get out! YGPM, Sunny.
H proposed in a fortune cookie- it said, "You will receive a proposal soon." And I went, "Oh ha! That's funny." and went on eating the cookie, thinking nothing of it. I had no clue because the fortune looked real- even with the Chinese word on the back. He steamed the cookie open and put the fortune in it himself. He proposed later that evening and thought I was onto him. Nope. 100% oblivious.
Can I just say that I love your siggy. I can never measure pasta right and I always make wayyy to many noodles. Same goes for rice lol
Thanks. I am the same way. Luckily, H is a total carb fiend.
So many sweet stories. I'm impressed that each one is different and sweet in their own ways.
