Lo soothed by light?

When dd is tired and crying at night she seems to be soothed when I walk into a lit room.  I'll walk into a different lit  part of the house while rocking her and she almost immediately stops crying.  Any thoguhts on why?  I've read babies aren't afraid of the dark until they are older.

Also we've been trying to set a pattern to help for the future day and night difference.  (I go back to work in 3.5 weeks. Sad And to be clear I'm not expecting immediate results or trying to push her to go to bed sleep at x time, just trying to establish the difference for her to help in the future.)  I have her nap in busier areas of the house during the day and try to keep her in a quiet, dark environment at night with lots of soothing but no play.  Any thoughts on how her seeming to be calmed by  light would affect that routine?

  • My DS loves the light too!! He will practically break his neck to look in the direction it's coming from. He sleeps in his pack n play next to our bed. And we sleep with the tv on.

  • We have to sleep with a dim light on because he starts screaming the instant the room is pitch black. It's frustrating because it took some getting used to for us, but I'm slowly dimming the light every night and I don't turn the light on in his room when
  • Our LO is definitely soothed by light. Her favorite are the small lights in the elevator ceiling. But she'll also settle fast in a dark room.

  • DD is too! We think it's hilarious...she will be fussing to no end when she is hungry. As soon as I turn on my side lamp at night to feed her, she's instantly calm.
