It has taken me a little time to get on here to write our birth story. Been quite busy with a newborn and all! Here is the ultra condensed version of the day.
After having been delayed three times by the hospital for our induction. I decided to embark on a mission to go into labor myself by intensive acupuncture and accupressure sessions. Two days later after completing the treatments (and the morning before my next scheduled induction) I went into labor naturally.
We arrived at the hospital at 6am. My water was broken and I was given a small amount of pitocin to help me progress as I was still only one cm dilated. I was eventually given an epidural and by around 6:30pm, we were getting prepped to start pushing. As the nurses were preparing, my epidural wore off some to where I could fully feel the contractions, but luckily was still numb in my nether-region.
I pushed for about two hours and little man was struggling. He was positioned in a way that he was trying to come out forehead first and was also pinching his umbilical cord so his heart rate would drop. He was however too far engaged (past my pelvic bone) that doing a c-section would have been just as traumatic. Finally, with some help of the vaccuum, Canden Pryce arrived at 8:38pm. He was 9lbs 4oz and 22inches long. Big boy! Since I am quite small in stature I still wonder how he fit inside me.
My joy of seeing him for the first time turned to worry when I looked down and saw that his head was extremely swollen. I think the doctor actually regerred to him as having "cupcake head" from the suction of the vaccuum. My husband and I were so worried as to whether or not he would be ok. We were unable to do immediate skin to skin contact, nor was my husband able to cut the cord since thy whisked him away to NICU to be evaluated further. After checking over his head and giving him some oxygen from his low heart rate, he returned to us about an hour and a half later.
We have never been so happy to have this little one in our lives and so very fortunate that this birth story has a happy ending. We are so very in love ![]()
Re: Canden Pryce...our birth story
Congrats!!! Your birth story sounds eerily similar to mine in terms of the two hours spent pushing, heart rate dropping, and eventual vacuum extraction.
Glad your LO is okay!
Congrats!!
