Post-Pregnancy Body Meltdown

Before pregnancy I was a modest size and through pregnancy I gained 35 pounds (I was underweight at 140 and I'm 5'9" before pregnancy) since giving birth I've dropped 18 pounds in a week and while I feel good my closet just isn't agreeing with me!

i didn't really buy maternity clothes because I thought of them as a waste of money so I just rocked the sweats and maxi dresses through pregnancy. Now I'm over the sweats and want to wear normal clothes again but besides a few long tanks and my "fat jeans" that now fit perfectly there isn't much to wear.

i had a mini breakdown as yesterday was my birthday and I had nothing that made me feel special to wear. We are tight on money and going to buy a bunch of clothes is out of the question.

To get to the point: what are you mommies doing to make you feel pretty? Any advice on clothing styles or options you're loving on your postpartum body? I can go buy a few items ($100 or so budget) so any recommendations would be great!

Re: Post-Pregnancy Body Meltdown

  • I would suggest giving it another week or 2 before you buy anything and then go out and buy a perfect pair of jeans.  Your belly skin will firm back up as the days go and that alone will help you feel better.  After DS, I was the same size as PP

  • 18lbs in a week is remarkable. Be proud of that! I know it's got to be frustrating. I'm giving birthday tonight and I definitely think about it. Maybe buy some leggings with a cute top for the time being?

I dropped nearly 30 in two weeks and am still about 10 pounds from pre pregnancy weight but like PP said, I'm carrying it differently now. I'm actually going out today to try and find some new clothes. My maternity clothes are too big and my regular cloth

  • I gained a ton of weight (60 lbs!) and still have 30 to lose...so it could be worse!! I can't fit in any of my clothes so I am rocking leggings and tops as I am mostly around the house with the baby. I am going to start doing hot yoga again very soon
  • Don't get discouraged... I know that's so much easier to say than to do. Anyway, my husband bought me a t-shirt extender from walmart. Basically it's a wide band of fabric that you can wear sort of like a belt, but for all those shirts that are too sho

  • I'm still wearing maternity jeans... anyway, try getting some cheap jeans/clothes from a 2nd hand store like Goodwill for this transition period.
