Tiramisu

I had lunch at california pizza kitchen and I accidentally ate tiramisu!!! i only ate a little hit over half a piece but I feel bad because I totally forgot that it has raw eggs and alcohol in it!!! I am sooooo upset

It can't be much right? They do let kids eat it after all

  • I bet it didn't have raw eggs. Most restaurants avoid raw egg products these days.

     As far as the alcohol, one time isn't going to be an issue. Breathe. :)

  • I wouldn't worry about the alcohol at all, it's virtually nothing. And the raw eggs are just a precaution, not a catastrophe. Don't let it get you worked up and stressed.
  • While classic tiramisu contains raw egg, the stuff in chain restaurants does not. If it did, it would state it on the menu.

    ETA. There is generally about half a cup to a full cup of marsala wine in it. That is the whole recipe, not just one piece. The amount you get is really small.

  • Don't worry. The amount of alcohol in a piece of cake is really, really small. I still put red wine in my pasta sauce (about half a cup in a big pot of sauce), and it's no big deal at all. I don't drink alcoholic beverages even when I'm not pregnant, but I asked my midwife about wine in food, and she said it's not a concern. Don't torture yourself over this.

  • You should be fine! I used to make it all the time and the eggs were cooked enough so they were fluffy so that got them warm enough to kill anything. And the alcohol is cooked off too. It's just a little cooking Marsala for flavor. I'm sure it was totally fine and the little bit you had won't hurt the baby or you at all!

  • We make Tiramisu at work and use pasteurized egg whites.  If your concerned your server shoud be able to tell you.
