Medela Pump In Style- what bottles?

I have a Medela Pump in style and I was looking at what bottles to register for to go with it. I've heard not great things about the actual Medela bottles- do most people that pump just use the bottles that come with the pump and pour what they pump into the bottles?

I'm guessing that it's probably a good idea to start with a couple types of bottles to see what the baby does well with before buying exclusively one type?

  • I use the Medela bottles to pump and store my milk in the fridge, but LO choked on the Medela nipples.  We tried a few kinds for feeding and ended up using the Avent natural, and LO has had no problem going from breast to bottle.

I pump into Medela bottles or cheap Evenflo bottles. We feed from Tommee Tippee bottle.  You'll likely rarely pump the exact amount you feed, so you'll be transferring milk to make bottles anyway.

Do the evenflo bottles connect to the pump attachment?

  • I pump into the medela bottles or bags and then use the avent classic bottles. He's had no problems going from the breast to the bottles. He took to them really easily. No fussing with them either.

  • I suggest registering for 1 or 2 bottles of several different brands (Tommy Tippee, Dr. Brown's, Avent, etc.).  Many babies are particular to the type of bottle/nipple they will take and you don't want to buy too many of one type of bottle in case the baby doesn't like that bottle.

I use the PISA and pump into those bottles and then transfer the milk to a Tommy Tippee bottle.

That said, I work full time, and I ordered an extra set of 5 oz Medela bottles because I felt like it required less washing of bottles to have some extra around.

This was me exactly, but I didn't have an extra set of the Medela bottles.  I did have a set of Dr. Browns I would use for backup since they screw on to the PISA.

  • Would you recommend getting a storage system? I'm not working now and not sure when I will start job hunting after LO gets here.

  • We started with a BreastFlow bottle, but I didn't like the way it kept collapsing on itself.  I tried the Medela bottle that came with the PISA and DD took it fine, so that's what we use.  Same with DS.  Easy, peasy.

  • I use the medela bottles to pump into and store in the fridge. Used the small skinny ones when my supply first came in and now the 5oz bottles.

My son likes the momma bottles by lansinoh. The shape is bizarre but I can't complain! We got a free sample from a pea in the pod and when we tried it he liked it.

I agree with pp-you rarely feed the exact amount you pumped into a bottle anyway. I freeze any surplus in medela or lansinoh storage bags.

I have this, got it about a month ago now. I wanted more bottles to pump into so that I don't have to constantly be washing them, and when I go back to work in March, so that I have even more flexibility with bottle quantity. I really like the fridge holder and the labeling lids, DH was always picking the wrong bottle to use from the fridge when he needed to feed DS while I was out. I pump into the Medela bottles and transfer to Avent Natural to feed. He's gone back and forth between bottle and breast since just a week old (milk transfer issues at first). He gets 1 bottle per night now. Honestly I think those bottles improved his latch, even. I didn't buy several kinds to try out, just bought 4 of those and have since bought 2 more (but haven't used them yet, will when I'm at work and he's taking bottles while I'm gone).

  • I use the Medela five ounce bottles to pump into and to feed.  We've never needed anything else.
