He is a researcher for the University of St. Andrews. He researches wild population genetics and measures natural selection. He is off the hook for teaching for a few years but he does have to teach an occasional grad courses.
He can work from home, at work, on vacation (he was reading about matrix population models in our tent while moose hunting). He does travel for conferences and field work. He is travelling to North Carolina next week, travelling to Lisbon in August, has month long field work in April. He has travelled all over the world for his job and research. He gets invited to run a lot of workshops and seminars at other Universities around the world.
DH is a regional sales manager for a company that makes airlocks used by companies when packaging powders. He works 8 hours a day MondayFriday when he is home and travels 1 or 2 weeks most months, average is 18 trips per year, but he is always home on weekends.

DH is an apprentice for submarine machinery mechanic at a naval shipyard. He just started this past Monday, actually. I am so proud of him! This is a huge shipyard and they do their year-long hiring process every other year. DH applied last April and after tests, interviews, etc. he was 1 of 50 (after hundreds) applied to be accepted. We're not exactly sure what the heck he's doing yet as this week is just orientation but he'll be an apprentice for about 2 years, working on a submarine and attending classes at the shipyard.
ETA - His hours are 7-3:30 and his commute is about 45 minutes but there's so much traffic on the base that he leave super early to be able to get a parking spot near his job site.
He may have travel opportunities to go out to San Diego for a month or two, eventually.
Edited to fix bump mobile grammar and to add some detail.
He works 6 days a week mostly 8 to 10 hours days. There are the occasional 12 hours days that have been more common recently.

IT'S A GIRL
These guys have some pretty cool jobs. Lol
When he's not traveling he pretty much makes his own schedule.
DS #1 Born: 10/03/06, DS #2 Born: 08/06/12 My Cooking Blog
DH is a gas main for Laclede Gas, a major gas company in our area. He can do anything from run a backhoe to dig a ditch to deal with a home owner to running a drill rig in a days time. He works 7-3:30 M-S and it's an hour commute both ways. No travel is required.
He is also a taxidermist and does that on side as a hobby. He only takes in so many animals a year do to the fact that he has a full time job.
DH works for the Navy, although he is a civilian. He manages Navy funding for ship construction and modernizations. He prepares budgets sent to Congress and the President for approval. He is government so he works the standard 80/hrs per pay period, but works it so that he has every other Friday off. He doesn't travel but commutes about 45 mins each way.
His last job was much cooler (for me anyways). He managed ticket operations for the Redskins, so we got to go to all the games and other events held at the stadium.
High school math teacher. Required to work 8 hours a day M-F, but he works more than that. He usually goes in an hour early and stays 30 minutes later. He also grades things at home. No travel required. He works several evening throughout the year for various events (parent/teacher conferences, open house, concessions at basketball games, Academic Bowl, Math Team, etc.)
Yesterday was a snow day, so he watched DS most of the day while I telecommuted.
My husband is a systems engineer and team lead of his department. He used to travel quite a bit. He's been to some pretty amazing places for work. His company is international so he has been to Rome, London, Paris, Germany, Brussels, I was able to go to this trip and we extended it and took a train to Amsterdam. Actually this is where DD was conceived
He doesn't really travel as much anymore, if he does it's in the US, which is a relief. He went to Germany when I was 8 months pregnant, it was very nerve wrecking.
There are a lot of hours, but he can work from home. Sometimes he works until 3 am, he's pretty much on call 24/7. When he works from home though I don't bother him at all (I'm SAHM). I love my DH, he works so hard. I use to work in the financial industry but decided to stay home and raise DD. I miss work sometimes, miss having actual conversations with people. But, I love, love, love staying home with DD and seeing her grow every day!
Some travel when they have clients in other regions. There hasn't been any of that in the last 6 months but it sounds like he might be visiting the walmart headquarters in Arkansas soon! His trips are usually only 3 days but always scheduled super last minute.
DH is a high school health/phy ed teacher. He's typically gone for 9 hours a day unless it's during football season. He coaches and during the season he will leave the house at 6:30 and not get home until 7:00 pm.
It sure was fun having a newborn on my own during August-October!
