Ameda flange sizes

I need some help with the flange sizes on the Ameda purely yours pump. I cannot seem to get a good fit and I am not getting a lot of milk when pumping. I get a lot more milk when I use my Medela freestyle. With the Medela, I use the 27 mm flange. Can anyone help me? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Ameda flange sizes

  • I used a Medela in the hospital, but bought an Ameda for home use.  I don't think it's the flanges, I think it's more how the machines work.  I got more with the way the Medela worked than I do with the Ameda.

  • I have low supply so every bit counts and so far I seem to be getting slightly more milk from the Ameda then I was from the Medela Symphony I am currently renting from the hospital. It takes longer for my milk to let down but I get more overall. Maybe you can play with the settings before you spend money on new flanges. I actually googled tips for getting the most milk with the Ameda earlier today and some people were saying they required more massage before pumping or they hand expressed a little before pumping. So far I am just experimenting with the settings. I bought the reducing insert and the flexishield insert and I found them both less comfortable than what came with the pump.

  • I agree with PP.  Try playing with the settings.  Perhaps your body responds better to the faster "sucking" early that the Medela pumps do.  Try recreating that on the Ameda.

As far as flange sizes, you should need the same size for both.  So make sure you're using the 27mm or 28.5 mm that Ameda has.

    Good luck!

My LC told me to do exactly this with my Ameda, Start off with the suction as high as you can tolerate comfortably, and fastest speed. Once you get a let down, slow it down. This has worked for me.
