Pregnant after a Loss

how much weight is too much to pick up?

We burn wood for heat so I have to carry in wood everyday. I'll try to take just a couple pieces at a time but across the yard and in the house it takes too long that way so I end up most mornings filling up my arms full and getting the job done. I'm wondering now that I am 30 weeks (tomorrow) if this is lifting heavy enough to cause labor? I certainly wouldn't want to do anything that could cause labor but I think the rule of thumb I've heard is maybe 30 pounds? I can't remember. Thoughts?

  • I think I heard no more than 20lbs. I would check with your OB office, in case they want you to lift less.

  • I would check with your OB because they know you and your history but I was told no more than 30.

  • Give a call in to your OB to be sure. But mine always told me to do whatever I had been doing as long as I was still comfortable (physically) doing it.

I lifted heavy weights throughout my whole pregnancy.

But check with your OB and go with your gut.

  • 25ish lbs.  can u used wheelbarrow or get a tarp and load a couple pieces on it and drag t across the yard? Or tie a bundle w a rope and drag it? That way you are not really straining.

  • That's the other thing- you can continue doing what you are comfortable w and used to during pregnancy,  so if this is a regular thing w you then I am inclined to think it's ok.  Just don't strain too much.  I occasionally have to lift DS into his carseat.  I am just careful and have him step on the side of the car and he kind of boosts himself up there too. :)

This. I still go to my weights class a couple times/week. I haven't added any weight while pregnant and have had to drop a little when we do back b/c of my belly but mostly I'm still doing the same.

  • First off I'm not a doctor, and I don't know your medical history- but I would think that you go with your gut. I mean, I have a 3.5 year old that is probably a little shy of 30 lbs and I put her in and out of the car, pick her up for hugs, etc. I know that carrying her for long periods of time is exhausting but it's not something that I strain with enough to cause concern. Is there a chance of dropping a piece heavy enough on your belly to cause an issue? Like PP's have said- always ask your OB but women still have to live their daily lives (carrying other kids, groceries, household items) with the exception of strict instructions from your doctor, of course. If DH is around I try to make him do the heavy lifting but I'm not standing helpless waiting for someone to put my daughter in the car, either.
