Sister for Paysen

Trying to find a name that fits with my first daughter's name which is Paysen. I work with kids and I have trouble finding something I don't relate to past students. So far our agreed upon names are Mckinley, Harper, Skylar and Sydney. With Mckinley in the lead as I've had many Sydneys in class and am afraid Harper will be too trendy. I'm open to suggestions!

Re: Sister for Paysen

  • Why did you delete your other post?

It sounds like you don't want to go with Sydney or Harper, so maybe you should just scratch those. I typed in Mckinley and Skylar on Nymbler.com and a few of the names that came up were: Kyleigh, Cassidy, Makenzie, and Brianna. Incidentally, Harper and Sydni were also results (which, I remember is how you wanted to spell Sydney before).

  • Is there a set middle name? I really like Skylar and Mckinley both. Harper is pretty name but becoming very popular fast.
  • I was getting the same negative comments again and again so I figured I'd try again. I still like Sydni too. I like the sound of Mckinley but open to other spellings. Ray is the MN for my hubby. His MN is Raymond. I also like Lula which is his Grandma's name but not sure it fits as well.
  • For a girl I would spell it Rae, but that's just me.  I would seriously consider using Sydney instead of Sydni if I were you.  I wouldn't want to go through life having to correct the spelling of anyone I tell my name.  You'll just make life easier for your daughter if you spell her name in a more common way.

  • I love Harper, but it is very "in" right now. As someone who was born in the 80s and given the name Ashlee, it was a pain in the *** to be in school with a lot of people with the same name! There were about 8 other Ashley's in my grade (I graduated with 100 students, so an extremely high percentage).

Granted, mine was spelled different, but that made no difference when someone said the name. To be fair, I like the spelling of my name - it feels more feminine and I'm also named for a man I respect and admire who has the middle name "Lee", so the lee would have been tacked onto any name my parents thought of (Emilee, Kimberlee, etc.). I'm constantly spelling it for people - if it's important (I learned to drop that battle a long time ago if it was something like calling in a take-out order or something silly like that).

I don't think Harper is that popular - I believe girls with the name Sophia and Isabella are in for that type of experience (I think Ashley was #2 for the year I was born with Jennifer being #1), but it is popular enough to have two or three potentially be in her grade :)

I would suggest going to babynamesworld.com and typing in the names you like - they give you options of other names you might like based on that one. I think of McKinley as being a boy name and not unisex (although I do love unisex names and our daughter will have one), but if you type in Kinley - for example - it will give you choices like Kennedy, Avery, Riley, etc.

    Good luck!

  • If you don't want trendy, I'd definitely eliminate McKinley.  Mc names are very trendy and honestly I think of the 90s a little bit with those.  And you're right about Harper.

I like Sydney, but I'd spell it like this.  I am Aimee, and with many other Amys in the 80s, my name was/is never spelled correctly, and it irritates me.  Sydney looks nice to me anyway.

One of the first names that popped in my head when I saw your list was Summer.  Do you like that?  Maybe also Hadley, Sloane, Brynn, Chloe.

  • I like McKinley with DD1's name. My husband's mn is Ray, so we used Rae for our youngest.

I totally agree with this. Spelling it the girl way doesn't make it any less of a tribute to your husband. Ray is so manly (hence why it is assigned to your husband)

EDIT TO ADD: I also don't mind McKinley on a girl. It used to be the top name for me years ago becuase of the way it sounded with my ln. I also like the nn Kinley regardless of how "trendy" it may sound. I like Harper, although it is trendy but it is still a pretty name. I am not a fan of Skylar, just never have been. Sydney is alright.

  • I do like Summer, but is it odd to name a winter baby Summer? I don't mind the male spelling of Ray because it's an MN, but that's just me.
  • I know a guy who just had a little girl named Channing. I think it is an adorable name.

  • Channing is cute too thanks for the suggestion!
  • I also have a friend with a little girl named Kenley. I like that too.

  • Not a huge fan of skylar it sounds trashy to me. So I would go with Harper or Sydney.

  • I'm actually kinda liking Lula.  Lula Rae would be really cute!
  • My vote is for summer
  • Summer has joined my tops list. Lula Rae is cute. Something to think about.
  • All of your names are trendy in a teen mom way...good luck with that.

  • For me just spell YOUR child's name how ever you like! I got alot of grief for spelling my DD name Reilly. But we did that because my Husband is Michael and I'm Lindsey so we both have L's in our name we wanted to give her 2 L's She love that her name is different from the 2 other Riley's in her class.

  • thank you. I never minded my name being spelled a little differently.
  • Agree with previous poster about spelling Ray as Rae for a girl. Also, I know people keep saying to spell you names more commonly however it honestly doesn't matter. I'm Jayme bc I was named after my grandfather but my mom was trying to make it more feminine. The fact of the matter is that there is also Jamie Jaime Jaymee Jamye and so on. My point being that most of the time your child is going to have to spell out their name or be questioned on how it's spelled. It's just how things are now. I have to question wether or not Christina is with a C or a K when I'm at work and that is a super common name but both spellings are so common now that you just have to ask! so I guess my point is that you should spell the name however you want. Just keep it to a 1 y maximum lol ps I am currently in love with the name Everly right now but can't use it. Maybe you like that?

  • Everly was on my list, hubby wasn't so sure. I love it though thanks for the suggestion!
