anyone primp/planning on primping before L&D lol?

my friend told me last night that when her contractions started she took a shower, shaved her legs, put on minimal waterproof makeup & did her hair before she went into the hospital. said she was happy she did when she looks back at delivery pictures of herself. i had no idea this was even an option. i have always pictured like in movies where they start and you grab the bags run out the door and are so frazzled you forget your shoes.. i am not sure if i would do this. possibly shower & shave possibly put some gel in my naturally curly hair if im a total mess & i feel like i have time. admit it though.. would you or have you?

  • If I can I'll probably try to do -something-. Hubby loves taking pictures and I know I'm gonna be a mess so maybe if I can do a little something I will.

  • I definitely don't plan on really primping.  My mom's labors all went very fast so I probably won't labor at home long, just to be safe.  If time permits I may shower and shave my legs (more for me than for anyone else).  There is no way I would spend time on hair and make-up though.

  • It is definitely not like the movies! When my water broke with DD, I took a shower, shaved my legs and underarms. I did my hair. I wanted to do my makeup, but DH was against it and wanted to get to the hospital. I ended up doing my makeup in the hospital bed, which was dumb to do it at all.

This time, I will do the same. I also won't be applying any makeup. It is just so annoying to have on and to take off! Ugh, I hate wearing makeup in general, so it's a PITA to me.

  • I definitely "plan" to who knows if I'll have time or be able At least make sure "down under" is up to par and braid my hair so my bangs are out of my face... I don't plan to go to crazy, but enough to at least be decent! :

  • I'm planning to jump in the bath tonight to shave and it will probably be the last shave job before baby comes unless we have a planned induction after our due date and I have time to prepare. If my water broke at home and I wasn't having contractions, I'd take the time to shower before heading to the hospital but I doubt I'd do much primping.
  • I do have to add that im naturally not very hairy, and keep up with my underarms still, since its the only place i can reach without fear of dismemberment! Hence the shaving really not being a priority, or requirement even

  • Iwanted to primp and then I actually went into labor I threw on my glasses and didn't even think about makeup! I thought I was going to have her early yesterday so I had primped but it all disappeared by the time it was ready to leave.

  • I might dab on a little makeup if I don't have some on already, but that's about it.

Isn't it often a long delivery for FTMs? I feel like my makeup may just melt off with sweat after a long or tough delivery, and my hair will get sweaty and gross (that happens pretty easily between showers for me). I don't plan on being in any pictures during delivery. I *might* allow myself to be in a picture with DD right after delivery, but we'll see.

I am, however, bringing a small bag of makeup and good travel shampoo/conditioner/body wash, a razor and a hair brush so I can try and make myself look and feel a bit better afterward when I can.

  • It depends. If I am a slow laborer, then I'll probably get ready before I go in-shower, shave, and a touch of makeup. It will all come down to how I'm feeling.

  • I really dislike having my picture taken when I'm barefaced and I look like a ghost without makeup so I plan to primp (if time permits and if I don't have makeup on already) but not my full on daily makeup routine. Once LO is born and we allow visitors, I'll shower at the hospital and get ready for the plethora of pictures the grandparents will be taking.
  • Yeah, no. I don't wear make up daily but I would like to shower. You really cannot plan for stuff like that. I'm with PP in thinking every shower now "This could be the last one!"

  • Definitely will shower and shave if I need to. Might blow dry my hair so it's not wet, but that's about it for me.
Baby Birthday Ticker TickerBaby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • If my water breaks first I will only have time for a shower and blow dry depending on how nasty my hair is that day I go every three days or so since I have wavy hair. If I'm contracting for a while I might do some primping to help pass the time but I'm definitely bringing some light make up with me. I'm super pale and look like death if I don't have something to brighten me up.

  • Nope, having a baby is hard work.  I wouldn't make myself look pretty before heading to they gym.  I'll have plenty more to worry about than the state of my hair and makeup.

Last time I did shower, probably shaved my legs (can't remember, but I usually do this when I shower) and dried my hair (DS was also a winter baby), but that doesn't take too long and really I got in the shower to make myself more comfortable, not necessarily for the vanity aspect of it.

  • Well sure! If I have time then I'll do my usual routine for looking my best. Why not? Short answer, I don't think there is anything wrong with looking a mess. Even with makeup and hair I'll likely look like Ive just had a baby. But I sincerely doubt I won't have time for a swipe of waterproof mascara.....
Also, I am packing a pretty pillowcase for hospital bed photos. You only have these photos once!

  • If I have time and I'm not in too much pain I'll get ready like I normally do....shower, blow dry hair and makeup.  I plan on getting waxed a few weeks before my due date so hopefully i wont have to worry about shaving.  With DS#1 all I did was take a shower because I had labored through the night and by the time I took a shower in the morning my contractions were really uncomfortable and I didn't care at that point.  But looking back, I really wished I had taken a shower earlier and gotten ready a little more because I looked like death in those first pictures lol.  I know it's not about how I look but since my MIL's camera is permanently attached to her hand, lol, I would like to look at pictures of that day and not cringe ;)

  • I hope to shower, shave my legs, blow dry my hair, throw on some BB Cream, colored eyeshadow primer (stuff stays on forever!), and mascara and hit the road! Our hospital bags are packed and in the car, so I won't have that to worry about at least. And the hospital is about 7 minutes away, so not far at all.

  • I did last time. Took a shower, shaved my legs and dried my hair (didn't style it at all, just a blow dry) and put on a little makeup. I wanted to labor at home as long as I could so it helped pass the time. Honestly though, after 16 hours of un medicated labor  (2.5 of which were pushing) my makeup was gone and my hair was a disaster... so at least for me it didn't help me look glam in post birth pictures.

  • I plan on putting makeup on and that's probably it. I have really pale skin so it will probably look all splotchy if I don't.

I try and take showers at the same time every day, so I'll only take one if it was almost time to anyway.

IMHO, to hell with shaving, lol. My OB's have been dealing with my hairy legs for the last couple of months anyway. :

I'm going to do my best to look decent but also not stress about it. I've definitely been set straight about the whole 'movie' timetable. I had to let DH know too, because he's always really antsy when we're trying to get out the door for stuff anyway, so I told him he was going to have to stay calm and let me waddle along at my own pace!

    Dear Baby Pacheco...
  • I don't even own makeup or a hairdryer, so I definitely don't care about that.  I might shower if I feel up to it.  I doubt I'll shave.  I'm trying to keep up with shaving now just in case, but honestly I don't care what my legs look like when I'm in labor.  I had a scheduled induction last time  and didn't primp for that so if I go into labor on my own this time it will definitely not be a priority.

  • My water broke at 12 am so there was no time for primping! We didn't even have our hospital bag packed.

  • If I am home and have time, I'll take a shower. I have a weird obsession with shaking my armpits so I will definitely shave those and I guess my legs if I think about it.

Other than that, nope! I'll bring some eyeliner and mascara for the after pictures but not for during labor. And if anyone thinks they're going to be taking pictures during labor anyway, they have another thing coming! LOL

  • After a 24 hour med free labor in and out of the tub last time, I'm sure that any make up I had put on was gone by the time we took pics. I could care less, though. However I will shave my legs at least once a week from here on out : and I do my pits every time I shower!

  • I think if I have time I will try and feel good which for me includes a shower and some small primping. I dont think there is anything wrong with wanting to look/feel nice. You can have a healthy baby and still feel good :) Everyone obviously has different opinions we don't need to make fun of eachothers opinion!!!!

  • I will but I am having a planned csection. With DS I only took the time to shower and blow dry my hair and I hate how washed out and tired I look in pics. Will definitely put on a bit of makeup this time.
  • ha! Not likely.  Definitely didn't have time when I went into labor with DD.  It went so fast.
Lilypie Second Birthday tickers BabyFetus Ticker
  • You have plenty of time to do that if you want to. My water broke with DS & I showered, did my hair & make up before I left for the hospital. Granted, my contractions didn't start on their own.

This is where I am too.  I plan on using the tub and shower while laboring, which means that my hair is going to be a mess (hello frizz) and makeup will be washed away.  I plan to take my primping stuff with me for after, but I'm not going to worry about it during labor.
