my friend told me last night that when her contractions started she took a shower, shaved her legs, put on minimal waterproof makeup & did her hair before she went into the hospital. said she was happy she did when she looks back at delivery pictures of herself. i had no idea this was even an option. i have always pictured like in movies where they start and you grab the bags run out the door and are so frazzled you forget your shoes.. i am not sure if i would do this. possibly shower & shave possibly put some gel in my naturally curly hair if im a total mess & i feel like i have time. admit it though.. would you or have you?

It is definitely not like the movies! When my water broke with DD, I took a shower, shaved my legs and underarms. I did my hair. I wanted to do my makeup, but DH was against it and wanted to get to the hospital. I ended up doing my makeup in the hospital bed, which was dumb to do it at all.
This time, I will do the same. I also won't be applying any makeup. It is just so annoying to have on and to take off! Ugh, I hate wearing makeup in general, so it's a PITA to me.
I'm not going in to deliver a healthy baby. I am going in to win a beauty pageant. To each their own, I guess.

Haha!
Shower? Yes
Shave? Maybe
Some gel in my hair? Probably
Makeup? No
I might dab on a little makeup if I don't have some on already, but that's about it.
Isn't it often a long delivery for FTMs? I feel like my makeup may just melt off with sweat after a long or tough delivery, and my hair will get sweaty and gross (that happens pretty easily between showers for me). I don't plan on being in any pictures during delivery. I *might* allow myself to be in a picture with DD right after delivery, but we'll see.
I am, however, bringing a small bag of makeup and good travel shampoo/conditioner/body wash, a razor and a hair brush so I can try and make myself look and feel a bit better afterward when I can.

I gave myself a pedicure in the hospital in between contractions in the early stages of my labor last time.

i have to admit it.. i read this and picked out a nail polish from my stash to put in my hospital bag. best idea ever.

Yeah, no. I don't wear make up daily but I would like to shower. You really cannot plan for stuff like that. I'm with PP in thinking every shower now "This could be the last one!"
Nope, having a baby is hard work. I wouldn't make myself look pretty before heading to they gym. I'll have plenty more to worry about than the state of my hair and makeup.
Last time I did shower, probably shaved my legs (can't remember, but I usually do this when I shower) and dried my hair (DS was also a winter baby), but that doesn't take too long and really I got in the shower to make myself more comfortable, not necessarily for the vanity aspect of it.

Also, I am packing a pretty pillowcase for hospital bed photos. You only have these photos once!
I try and take showers at the same time every day, so I'll only take one if it was almost time to anyway.
IMHO, to hell with shaving, lol. My OB's have been dealing with my hairy legs for the last couple of months anyway. :
I'm going to do my best to look decent but also not stress about it. I've definitely been set straight about the whole 'movie' timetable. I had to let DH know too, because he's always really antsy when we're trying to get out the door for stuff anyway, so I told him he was going to have to stay calm and let me waddle along at my own pace!

Dear Baby Pacheco...
I don't even own makeup or a hairdryer, so I definitely don't care about that. I might shower if I feel up to it. I doubt I'll shave. I'm trying to keep up with shaving now just in case, but honestly I don't care what my legs look like when I'm in labor. I had a scheduled induction last time and didn't primp for that so if I go into labor on my own this time it will definitely not be a priority.
If I am home and have time, I'll take a shower. I have a weird obsession with shaking my armpits so I will definitely shave those and I guess my legs if I think about it.
Other than that, nope! I'll bring some eyeliner and mascara for the after pictures but not for during labor. And if anyone thinks they're going to be taking pictures during labor anyway, they have another thing coming! LOL
I think if I have time I will try and feel good which for me includes a shower and some small primping. I dont think there is anything wrong with wanting to look/feel nice. You can have a healthy baby and still feel good
Everyone obviously has different opinions we don't need to make fun of eachothers opinion!!!!

This is where I am too. I plan on using the tub and shower while laboring, which means that my hair is going to be a mess (hello frizz) and makeup will be washed away. I plan to take my primping stuff with me for after, but I'm not going to worry about it during labor.
