https://www.oasas.state.ny.us/fasd/faq.cfmI have read many similar research reports during a couple of college social work courses and I don?t mean to lecture but the ease of the "drink till its pink" mantra is worrisome because the first few weeks are so critical to the development of the nervous system.
May not be implanted with umbilical chord but toxic chemical can still be shared.
Also, if many of us are taking a while to conceive, wouldn?t you want to increase your odds for the better? Alcohol may interfere with the implantation! I can understand have a few cocktail pre O but during 2WW... it?s just too much to risk. Wouldn't it be worth it to sacrifice those 2 weeks to give the potential life the best start possible?
...just my thoughts on the topic.
Re: Not trying to lecture but alcohol and early pregnancy does have risks!!!
exactly and well Many medical professionals feel it is even safe to drink the occassional glass of red wine while pregnant.
I don't think anyone on here is binge drinking while TTC, but it doesn't hurt to live normally throughout the process. People get pregnant all the time with out charting, green tea, preseed, OPK's, and all of the other crap that we've introduced into our lives and they never once stop their normal routines. It's good to take conception seriously, but come on.
My thoughts exactly.

I think that's the part that makes it so controversial... there isn't a level that's proven safe or harmful. Plus there is the fear that if a dr says it is ok in moderation someone might interpret that as 4 drinks a day....
Not to put education out there but in this case I will. I have a masters degree in medical and I think through my 7 years of medical training I would have a firm concept of reality in medical expectations and the difference in quoting states that have been read online. Medically speaking it is okay to continue with normal activities when actively ttc. The reason behind the vitamins and folic acid while ttc is because you want a STORE of the vits to be readily available once conception occurs in order to help with the proper development of the fetus because it can take up to 90 days of a proper vitamin supply to be stored in your body so this way your "fetus" has the proper collection of nutrients when there is conception. It is not because as soon as you concieve your child is feeding off your body.. A drink or two here and there is perfectly acceptable.
Hellooo I do not condone it but how many of our mothers drank while pregnant and smoked and we are all perfectly healthy, the same as our grandmothers with our parents. But according to you, my 8 years of trying I shouldnt have had any alchohol or recreational fun or any of the other potential hazards to a fetus? Im guessing my glass of wine during the 2ww is why I am not pregnant.
Get a grip already, TTC is not a death sentence.
Oh dear Lord... I wasn't accuse ladies here of being drunks nor was I trying to cast shame on ANYONE! I was just playing devils advocate and putting out some research on the topic. Why does having a differing stance on something need to be taken as an extreme accusation?
That article was just one that I quickly googled. Just wanted to state some medical facts on why we should refrain where we can. Not trying to say anything other than that. Geeze!
It was just a quick lookup for this post... there are plenty of other sources out there for anyone else to read.
I am an educated person too who knows how to discern credible sources thanks!
Thank you!
Nowhere in that article was it mentioned that drinking during the 2ww was dangerous. It specifically states that the risk is with the shared umbilical cord which occurs after you have a +HPT. Also, it mentions that you should get drinking under control(not abstain) prior to pregnancy. That statement alone makes this sound like the information is focused on people who have alcohol related problems - not someone enjoying a nice glass of wine with dinner.
You can have your opinions, but if you cite a reference make sure that it backs up your claim.
I'm thinking you ought to be telling us that's why YOU refrain where YOU can. I'm thinking most of us here don't need you preaching to us...thanks!
Here is my only problem with this, the ladies who frequent these boards or those who have been TTC for a while understand how conception works, but how about the rest of the world, women who do not find out until they have missed 1 or 2 periods? Or get pregnant on BC?
If you follow this logic every single woman of child bearing age who is sexually active should abstain from alcohol or they might harm their babies. Sorry, but no.
Again, we do what we can given what we know now... that's all that's being said here.
Amen my sistas!!!

I am now REALLY regretting the 1/2 glass of wine and 1/2 glass of sangria I had at my party last night. Should I get my BFP tomorrow it will mean I am already an abusive parent and that my child will be born sick. Oh my what have I done????
(this is what this post is saying about people like me, basically)
How long have you both been TTC?? Maybe the first 2 months I felt this way, but by cycle 6 I pretty much stopped putting my life on hold to be disappointed over and over again!!!!
Awww - Thanks!! It is mutual.
Amen my sista!

Precisely!!

Damn, yeah I suck because I am new to TTC and have a differing take on this. I was not judging on who is a better mother or any crap like that. No one is perfect nor can we live in a bubble... but then again I was not suggesting that either. Please don't read more into the actual words in my OP. Yeah, I am bad too because I don?t eat all organic either! WE DO THE BEST WE CAN
Demonize me all you want for having a differing stance. There was no meanness meant. It?s a free country and I just was saying what was on my mind.
There, done.
