will probably do a vaginal exam at my appointment tomorrow afternoon?
This kind of freaks me out, I'm not sure why. I know effacement/dilation doesn't mean much, I'm just not sure I want to know... Just one more thing to be (needlessly) freaked out about!

Re: I'm 36 weeks tomorrow, does this mean my OB
You could just tell them no. They aren't necessary and you can decline.
I'm opting out of them this time around. They don't really tell you anything, offer a small chance of infection, and in my experience, hurt like hell. It's not a requirement. You can say you choose not to have it done.
yes your OB may want to do one. but as they pp said they are not necessary and you can just tell them you don't want it done.
you will probably still have to strip down for your GBS test though!!

this! I was told I would be swabbed for GBS at my 36 week appt next week.

what about them freaks you out...there are risks and they don't really tell you much. they are also kind of nice to know if there's any progress at all. i didnt' dilate at ALL with DS until i was 10 days over and induced so it was good to know how i wasn't progressing.
if you really don't want them you can absolutely decline it. just ask your Dr...i would say it's not until your next appt or closer to 38 weeks they'd want to start them though
It honestly does not bother me at all that they do them. I understand that it doesn't really mean anything but I kinda like knowing what my body is doing. I will be induced at 39 weeks for placental issues unless he is here before then, so its nice to see if I will be a good candidate for an induction.

I think it just depends. I don't think that the hurt per say but more uncomfortable then anything. eh I had so many of them last time towards the end that it really wasn't a big deal. I never had any bleeding or spotting afterwards but it is no different then any type of bleeding spotting you would get after any vaginal exam

The first time I had a cervix check was at 29 almost 30 weeks pregnant. I had my 36 week appointment today and they did a cervix check. For every appointment here on out I will have one was well.
There's a lot of that in the world it seems. I keep watching A Baby Story and I'm just appalled at what these women allow to happen to them during labor.
