If you went into labor before your scheduled c-section/induction..

Good Morning,

I will be 36 weeks on Sunday and I am so thankful that I was able to keep these babies cooking so long.  I have my c-section scheduled for 37w5d and now that I am getting so close, I am driving myself crazy with wondering whether I will make it or not.  My OB seems to think I will go into labor before the scheduled c/s.

I am just wondering if those of you that went into labor on your own had any warning/signs that it was coming.  Did your water just break out of nowhere?  Or were there any symptoms you had that gave you a clue that it was coming?  I am over-analyzing every little ache and pain that I have.

Thanks in advance!

  • I did! The day before I just felt really "off" and worse than normal with the aches and pains. It hurt to even sit down, it was harder to breathe, etc.

That night my stomach hurt, and the best way I could describe it is it felt like someone slipped a bunch of laxatives into my dinner. Like a painful cramping.

The next morning I had contractions that felt like period cramps that were timeable, and so we called and went to the hospital. Sure enough, I was in labor!
  • I also had no warning signs.  I went in for my regular weekly check and was "crampy".  I told my doc and she made a face (not good!) when I told her.  I was a 4 with a bulging bag and had my girls 2 and 1/2 hours later.   I was contracting every 2-3 minutes at the hospital and barely felt anything.  The nurses were amazed!  Haha!

It can't hurt to check!  And congrats on getting to 36 weeks!  I wish I had made it that far!

  • I was scheduled to be induced at 38wks3days...water broke at 38 weeks....I had a membrane sweep on the thursday (37-4days) felt crampy but nothing started....then the sat and sunday (37 5 &6 days) I just felt terrible...moody...exhausted...crampy...I just knew it was going to happen anytime...woke up early monday morning and my water broke! Good luck to you!
  • My c/s was scheduled for 37w2d, but my water broke at 36w1d. As far as signs, I had been having contractions for a month. I was never on medication for them since I wasn't dilating. The day before, I told DH I felt out of sorts...I just felt so uncomfortable all of a sudden. My hips were killing me. The morning of, I threw up and continued to be in pain. I went to the OB that day and was thinned out, but not dilated. Two hours later, I had a little spotting and my water broke on the toilet. It seemed pretty sudden, but looking back, i think my body knew what was about to happen.

  • I was scheduled for a c-section for 38 weeks. Went into labor 5 days before schedule and my labor progressed quickly. This was baby #3 & #4 (previous vaginal deliveries) it was awful, the contractions were intense, the anistisiologist couldn't get spinal in, everyone was rushing around! I was terrified! I don't want to scare you, but I was excited about the scheduled c-section so I wouldn't have to go thru the whole labor! Seeing those babies come out big and healthy (girl was 7.1 boy was 7.7) I forgot ALL about the horrible experience 20 minutes earlier! Also, I was having my tubes tied, but didn't bring my paperwork, I thought all of that was in the "system" as they were stitching me back up I mentioned "you guys are tying my tubes, right?" Good thing I asked because they had no idea. They took care of it andi am now the mother of 4 beautiful children !
  • I didn't have a single clue.  In fact, I woke up about 10 min before my water broke and then went back to sleep.  I only woke up again because I was feeling wet and squishy and couldn't figure out why.  I got up out of bed and it just wouldn't stop. lol

    I made it to 35w5d with a scheduled c-section at 37w1d.

That was me. My water broke out of NOWHERE (I was reaching for a dog toy!) with no warning signs at all. I hadn't gone to L&D before and hadn't had any complications since a couple rough patches in the first tri. I'd been at the doctor the day before for U/S and NST with NO SIGNS of labor. It really could happen any time. Good luck!

TTC for 3 years. Finally successful after 5 IUIs and 2 cycles of IVF. Our amazing twins were born 5 weeks early on 8/16/11. Found out April 2012 that our di/di twins are ID.

  • I was scheduled for 37wk1d and contractions started at 11am 37w exactly! I tried taking a nap with my son. When I woke up at Noon, they still didnt stop. I called my husband and said I think we should go in and get checked. We got to the hospital between 1 and 2. I was hooked up to the monitors and it was registering contractions every 2-3 mins. My dr wanted the nurses to put in an iv and see if the contractions(thinking I was dehydrated) would stop but they didnt want to poke me then and then have to do it again in the moring. We went ahead and did the iv with no real relief. My c/s was set for 5pm and they were out by 5:42pm and 5:44pm.
  • my water broke out of nowhere at 35 weeks . I had the non stress test the day before and everything looked fine .
