How do you feel about YOUR name?

Re: How do you feel about YOUR name?

  • I love my name, but in some ways it is a huge pain. No one can either spell or pronounce it, because my dad made it up. Somehow he managed to make a name up that I've never heard anywhere else, never met anyone with the name, and yet (I think) it doesn't scream UNEEK or just weird. It does trip people up with the pronunciation and spelling though.

It's worth it to me not to have the same name as anyone, but it definitely contributes to my naming style for future children - I want names that are individual that very few other people have, but with the caveat that they must be easy (or at least not tooo hard) to spell and pronounce. We'll see how I do with that!

  • I'm an Elizabeth Ann, and I've always loved my name.  There are so many awesome Elizabeths to look up to, and it has so many fantastic nicknames.  My grandfather called me Izzy, my friends call me Lizzy, work calls me Elizabeth.  It works for a child, works great for an adult.  I love it.

I also love that my sisters named me after the Queen of England.  :)

  • Love my name too!  I like that it's just a little different that people recognize it, but don't hear it often.  I also think it grew as an adult name too.

The spelling thing (guess mom was super trendy w/ the "Y" 30 years ago, ha) has just been something that I'm just used to. And if some random person spells it "Dana" (waiting for a table at a restaurant, etc) it doesn't bother me at all either.

  • Didn't really care for it as a child as there were too many.  Now as an adult, I like it just fine although it's rather dated.  Then again, dated names sometimes end up working their way back on up ;).

  • I've always liked my name, Samantha.  I could always find personalized stuff when I was growing up, but never knew another Samantha, which made me feel special, but not like a weirdo.  However, I hate to be called Sam by anyone but my husband, and *everyone* seems to automatically shorten it.  So that drives me up the wall.

My name is Lisa and I was born in 1982.  There were a few others in my kindergarten class, and then one or two in middle school, but after that I have only met a few of other Lisas throughout my adult life.  I've always liked my name.  My biggest complaint, and it's pretty minor, is that my middle name is Marie.  So naturally people ask if my parents named me after Lisa Marie Presley (they didn't).  As it is, I like my middle name too.

My sisters name is Lisa Marie lol, except she was born in 74

  • My name is Meghan.  I like my name.  The only thing I hated when I was younger was that I could never buy something with my name on it because it was always spelled wrong.  Mostly Megan or things like that. I also love it with my mn Meghan Elizabeth.

  • My name is Veronique, and I'm a fan of it. My only issues are: 1) lazy readers that assume my name is Veronica, and 2) the truly gifted comics that respond to my name with, "oh, that's very unique... get it? Get it?!" LOL
I'm so crafty, I make people.
  • I love my name (Lauren). I think it's beautiful. It was #80 the year I was born and there still managed to be 3 other girls by the same name in my small class of 18, but that was okay. We were all friends.

Plus my mom spelled it correctly and while some people do manage to get it wrong sometimes, I don't have to correct them often. So that's a bonus.

  • I LOVE my name "Leasa" (pronounced Lisa).  I was born in Germany and was named after a German woman who really took my parents under her wing when they first moved there.  I like it b/c it's unique.  That's why I'm trying to come up with a unique name that means something to us.
  • Ashley

It was in the top 5 all throughout the 90's

I've always liked it, but I was always called Ashley B. in class

  • I don't mind it. I used to hate my real name (Melinda), but I've grown used to it. I still mostly go by my nn (Mindy). I think it fits me better.

  • I like that my name is not so far out there but spelled differently- people seem to remember it more. I purposely didn't want my girls to have a super popular name   although Scarlett is creeping up there to my dismay!
  • I've always disliked my name (Kimberley) and everyone always spells it wrong... but I do prefer my spelling instead of Kimberly, that looks wrong too me but I guess it's just because I'm used to my way

    I am Laura ... I like it, it's classic & not over used  :)

Me too. I am surprised it's not more popular!
