DS is 10 weeks old and ever since he was 2 weeks old, we've been giving him a bottle of pumped breast milk a day. For the past week, he has been less and less willing to eat from the bottle. Yesterday he refused to eat from a bottle when I tried feeding him. So today we had DH feed him, with me in a different room of the house. He only took 2 ounces (he normally takes 4), we waited till the next feeding thinking that he might be more willing to eat more if he is more hungry, but nope, at the next feeding, he only took half an ounce and then started crying/screaming. After 15 minutes, DH finally gave up so I fed him from the breast, and he ate for 30 minutes, so we know he was definitely hungry.
Any advice? I'm going back to work in 3 weeks so this is stressing me out.
Oh we use the Medela bottles, also tried Dr. Brown's today, but he refused to take that too.
Re: Help - 10 week old suddenly refusing to take a bottle
I had a bottle refuser as well which started around 2 months old. It is very stressful. You must keep at it every day even though it is frustrating. Try not to let the baby see you stressing over it - try to make it into a playful game. Just put 2 ounces in there so you dont waste a ton of milk in the retraining process. If baby is screaming bloody murder, try again later. Also, don't give the rightbreast right away after the baby starts crying; otherwise baby may realize that if he cries, he won't have to deal with the bottle and will get the breast.
My baby eventually started taking the bottle again and I was to the point where I thought it would never happen. Just keep trying.
