Maternity clothes for petite women?

Hi ladies,

Its almost that time for me to start finding some maternity clothes for work. I've looked at Target, Macy's  and Gap and so far everything is huge one me in length. I'm 5'2", I was a size 24 waist prepregnacy and now my "fat jeans" don't even fit me. My belly is pretty big but the rest of me s still semi small (minus my DD boobs).

Im trailing, point being, any other petite women out there have luck with maternity clothes? If so, where?

THANK YOU!!!

Re: Maternity clothes for petite women?

  • I'm the same height and had the same issue.  I was able to find some decent petite maternity jeans and work pants at Khols.  Their maternity section is usually near the pajamas in a small section, but I was happy they actually had some things there I could try on.  They didn't have many small options-I had to do some searching through the rack...but I think you can order clothes off their website too  which offers more sizes.

  • Im petite as well. I found my size in Motherhood maternity (and they're on sale now). Check the website if you have an outlet near your area.
  • Motherhood has maternity pants that I love!!
  • Great, thank you ladies!
  • Honestly, I think you should just get stuff hemmed, or learn to hem yourself.  I'm 5'1" and almost always have to hem my pants.

I have had luck with Gap Maternity's ankle length, though.  Sometimes the length is right, and other times I can turn the leg up at the bottom seam, iron that crease, and evenly hem at that point.

Destination Maternity's pants are all too long for me.  (They carry Motherhood.)  Hemming is pretty cheap if you get it done at the cleaner's, and the turnaround time is often less than 3 days.  I think the last time I paid to get pants hemmed it was about $12, and I live in a very high cost of living area.

Spending $150 on a sewing machine a few years back has really empowered me.  I feel like I can buy any pants that fit right up top now, with no worry.

    Good luck!

  • I'm 5'4 so not quite as short as you, but my pants do all drag the ground and usually the cuff erodes away.  For shirts, goodness do they feel like tents for a LONG time!  I actually have had quite a bit of luck just buying bigger sized regular clothing.  I wear a small in shirts, but for pregnancy I can do a medium or large in non-maternity stuff and it lasts quite a while.  I go for longer stuff, a lot of Target knit cotton shirts are pretty long now, and those are great!  At the end when I'm feeling moo-ish somedays and don't feel like trying, dh's t-shirts are great for just grunging.  He wears a medium, but I might even buy some smalls this time so they fit a little more like I prefer.

  • Motherhood maternity carries petite sizes, I believe.

Did you check Gap maternity online? The have short, reg, and tall lengths. I'm tall, but when I order on the Gap website they have the short lengths avail. I would order one size down, their sizes are more generous than their non mat sizes. And the pants stretch out a lot (all mat jeans do IME).

  • I'm 4'11" and had good luck with Old Navy and Gap's ankle length pants, as well as the petites from Motherhood Maternity (they sell at Macy's and Kohl's too).

  • I am 5 ft even, and I found the best stuff at Gap, because they come in lengths, and the short length fits me perfect.  Other than that- I just got stuff hemmed- as I ALWAYS do because everything is too long on me.

  • I'm 4'10" and I have been buying a couple sizes up in regular shirts (mostly ones that have space for a bigger belly). For pants, the only ones I have found that are close to fitting in length are Old Navy, but I am used to getting my pants hemmed. DH has promised me a sewing machine (eventually) because it will save on my costs of having to constantly go to the tailor's and with a sewing machine, it's pretty easy to fix a hem.

  • Got "Modern Flare Petite" dress pants from Motherhood and totally love them! They look a bit cheaper than my beloved Express Editors but from a distance you can barely tell and they are very comfortable and affordable ($35 for a pair).  I really have liked their pants so far because they have a little bit of extra room in the hips, butt, and thigh area, which seems to have been expanding on me a bit.

I am 4'9" and I had good luck with Motherhood Maternity. They are on sale right now and I just ordered 2 pairs. I am also heading to Kohls this afternoon hoping that they have something. My favorite pair of maternity pants from last pregnancy have a huge hole in the crotch so those are in the trash (boo!). I had good luck with Old Navy too. I didn't have a problem with the shirts not fitting though.

  • I am 4'10".  I found one pair at pea in a pod that fits.  Other than that everything had to be hemmed.  I am hoping that Macy's does have some that fit.  I have a lot of gift certificates to use there and I was saving them for maternity clothes.
