Baby Names

Why can't anyone pronounce DDs name?!?!

My DD is 9 weeks old.  We have been to the doctors for checkups several times and NO ONE has said her name right.

I really wanted a classic name, I spelled it a little different but I don't think it was far fetch.

:)

Her name is Lilah. What is so hard about that?

Rant over...TIA!

  • Sorry you're having trouble with it.  I'm guessing you're getting Lil-uh and you want Lie-luh.  On here it's asked fairly often and there's always a few people that have trouble with it or suggest Lyla instead.  It's still a pretty name.  I think at doctor's offices they don't try that hard to get a name right, they see so many patients (personal work experience speaking).  Most people you interact with will at least remember her name even if they need to be corrected.

  • Lie-Luh is correct!

I think it's an older classic name, I didn't think we would struggle like we are with people pronouncing it.

  • I love the name, and that's exactly how I would spell it and pronounce it.

I think the "h" on the end makes it obvious that it should sound like the end of Delilah.

  • I've only seen it spelled Lila and never wondered about pronounciation.  Maybe the "h" is throwing people?  It's a beautiful name.

  • I like it with an "h", and I would have no guess as to why people are pronouncing it differently..

  • I'm pretty shocked that no one is pronouncing it correctly. I'm sorry that's happening. Just when you think people can't get any dumber...

  • I'd pronounce it Lie-Lah, too.

My name is Gianna (G-ahn-uh or John-nuh are correct) and I've heard it mispronounced 100 different ways, one teacher even combined my first and last name and called me Georgiana (my maiden name was Giorgi, pronounced George-ee)

I'm sorry you're having this problem, I don't think adding an h to the name screwed people up, they probably would say it wrong without the h.

  • I wouldn't be so upset -- with all the crazy ways people spell / pronounce names these days, people are so f'ed up!! I'm Melissa and while people can pronounce it, they can't spell it to save their lives. I get Melisa, Mellissa, Mellisa, Malisa, Mallissa, etc.... UGH!

  • I think it's a beautiful name and I would pronounce it Lieluh. With that being said, I used to work at a dr's office and after seeing hundreds of Mia's pronounced either Meeuh or Myuh, Anna's pronounced Anna or Ahnna, and Lila's pronounced Leeluh or Lieluh, it can be hard to get it right. It's all of the (*cough* stupud *cough*) parents that want to spell their kid's names one way and say it another way that ruin it for everyone. There are two patients we had named Rena (pronounced Renay) and Rena (pronounced Reenuh) and both of them would get pissed off and go on a rant every time someone said their name wrong so we had to make sure we kept good track of who was who. It's upsetting when someone says your child's name wrong but try not to take it personally.
