Does sex really induce? (tmi...)

I am 37 weeks and soooo ready for DD to be here. I feel so sorry for my fiance because I have been in too much pain to have sex. At my last appointment, my cervix was starting to soften. I finally gave in to his pleading and had sex but now I am in pain and it hurts to walk or even climb the stairs to my house.

My worry is that suddenly I will go into labor because of it. It seems stupid to worry about that but can it really happen?

I've heard sex can induce labor when you are closer to your due date.

Our birthing instructor mentioned this in her list of tips to bring about labor for those moms who were past their due dates. Apparently sperm contains some hormone, prolactin I think, that can help bring on labor.

We have been having sex twice a day and I run every morning. I truly do not think it brings on labor. And yes, twice a day sounds crazy at this point but I cannot seem to get enough. Not sure where this came from but it's been going on for months.

Sex especially with nipple stimulation releases a hormone called Oxytocin, which can help naturally induce labor. I wouldn't worry about suddenly going into labor just because you had sex though......

They say that having sex releases prostaglandins, which is basically the same things that happens when you get your membranes swept. In both cases it only works if your body is ready to go into labor anyway, so basically it's just something they tell you to do to keep you occupied while you wait. I'm 39 weeks and SO ready for this little girl to come. I've had my membranes swept and we've been having sex too, but apparently she's just not ready yet. Looking forward to my appt on Monday and hoping she's ready soon! Good luck!

Only if your body is ready to go into labor, which at 37w, it probably isn't.

It can help soften your cervix but won't necessarily induce labor unless your body is ready. DH and I had sex a few days ago, the first time since um..16wks? I had a lot of crampiness and pelvic pain afterwards but I feel fine now.

My OB always said it would work but it didn't with DDI went to 42 weeks!

Yes, semen soften the cervix and orgasms can trigger contractions. If you are having a complicated pregnancy your doctor may advise you not to have sex. If you are having a normal pregnancy, than your body will not do anything before it is ready.

Semen contains prostaglandins which can help soften the cervix. Prolactin is the hormone responsible for producing breastmilk

yes it can!!! Okay, this might be TMI but if you goes inside you and can soften your cervix and put you into labor!!!

No it doesn't but the man's semen can help soften the cervix...All these "Suggestions" people tell you to help induce labor are all just myths...Labor will start when it starts...but I too have fallen pray to all these suggestions and have been trying them all for past few weeks and I m 4 days over due as of today..i have even had my membranes stripped 2 times this week and still nothing. As frustrated and depressed as I am at this point..I know baby will come when she and God are ready for her to be her...good luck
