For those of you getting these crazy early ultrasounds, I'm just curious about the reasoning. I didn't get any U/Ss with my last babe until 20 weeks.
Are you guys all IVF, or do you have h/o miscarriages?
I hope this doesn't come off as snotty I just want to know what the trick is :
Re: How are you guys getting all these USs?
My BFP Chart
Honestly, the only reason I will is because I'm going to a clinic that I have no intention of continuing my care, solely because I know that they do a dating u/s at the first appt.
Even with a previous m/c, my MW doesn't do early u/s. I figure knowledge is power and since I know the other clinic offers them, I might as well take advantage.
side note :: whatcha doin in Wisconsin if you're a Minnesota gal?!
I think it also depends on the doctor's office. Mine does an initial u/s at 6 weeks to make sure the baby is viable before scheduling an appointment with the OB - that is their standard.
This is my first pregnancy, non-medicated and I have no history of m/c.
BFP #2: 11-7-14, CP (BFN: 11-13-14)
BFP #3: 3/24/15 EDD: 12/5/15
This is my first pregnancy -- no history of m/c and no infertility / IVF. I went in early due to some spotting / cramping, to have a pregnancy confirmation appointment, and they found my progesterone was low and put me on suppositories. Two days after that, I got a call saying I could schedule an "early OB ultrasound." No idea why -- I'll be 35 when I deliver and I'm overweight, so maybe that combined with the low progesterone has them wanting to watch me closely.
U/S was great though.
I've had 2 ectopics and one miscarriage so they do early ultrasounds to locate the pregnancy and determine viability.
Also, a little "trick" you can do (if you're in to that) is tell them you don't know when your LMP was, and they will give you an ultrasound do determine your due date.

I have a history of miscarriage, so this time around I am being monitored from the time of my BFP. Early ultrasound is part of this.

And for those that asked...I was born raised in The Cities, but now live in Ellsworth, WI. It's pretty close to the border I get to St. Paul about once a week, so I still feel like I belong to both :
My Ovulation Chart BFP-11/10/11 ectopic. Methotrexate on 12/1/11. BFP #2-08/17/2012 FX for a ute-baby! 15DPO beta-387 HCG; 36 progesterone
This is my first pregnancy and I don't have a history of health issues or any sort. The doctor wants to set a more "official" due date, so I have an u/s in 2 weeks!
I was surprised, but I'm really excited
This. I was also told this up front when I scheduled my appointment. Granted I'll be 8weeks when I have my first appointment, but the u/s is first and then I come back later in the day to see the OB.
Same here.
IVF and a history of loss. And I paid for it ... no really, there's an extra OB package with my RE for out of pocket patients that basically lets you come in 1-2 times a week for ultrasound and bloodwork (and I get to call panicked at every sign of spotting and ask for a reassurance ultrasound) until you graduate at 10 weeks. Not cheap but totally worth it to stay a high priority patient until I'm almost out of the first trimester. I've been in three times already and go back on Friday to see my little dragon again
I figure we've paid well over 60k in infertility treatments to get this pregnancy, I might as well get the fancy glamor shots of baby to look at.

The trick???
For me it was secondary infertility and 18 painful months of let-downs, including a miscarriage.
Good luck with that.

Hi. My doctor says she gives everyone an ultrasound at about 6 weeks to be sure it isn't a tubal pregnancy. This is my first pregnancy and I have had no complications so far.
My practice does your first between 8 and 9 weeks, at 12 weeks if you opt for the NT scan, and at 20 weeks. You get another on your due date if you haven't delivered to check fluid levels and another week after that if still carrying. I only had one early yesterday because of strong cramping and back pain on Friday; they wanted to make sure everything was settled into my uterus and not elsewhere.
Yea, sorry if this seemed a little b!tchy OP. I'm still pretty sensitive about all this and asking what the "trick" is kind of rubbed me the wrong way.
Thanks for the love, crammy!

Most docs do not do blood levels and things like that unless they feel they need to (some do confirm with a blood test, though). Your body is going through a ton of changes and it's probably in your best interest to stop temping at POAS at this point, or you're going to drive yourself crazy.
Best of luck!

I had an early sono ( which is common practice at my OBs) plus I have had two since, one on last Thurs and one today due to bleeding.
I am getting my first next week--the 27th, and I'll be about 7 weeks. My doctor's office does them automatically...I have a 9:30 U/S appt and then a 10:30 Doctor's appt.
I have no history of any losses & this is my first....and it was natural conception.
