Roseola Rash

I think my son has the Roseola Rash. He's had a fever for about 3-4 days now and now his body and face is covered in a pinkish rash. I had to google it because I have never heard of it before. From what I gather from the article is that there is nothing we can do but let it run its course. Has your LO had this rash yet? Now 2 weeks ago he had red bumps all over his body and the Pedi said that was Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease - common in babies. The good thing is that roseola rash isn't itchy and he can continue to carry on with his normal playing around without going through a scratching fit.

Re: Roseola Rash

  • My daughter has this exact thing going on however Im 99% shes teething (explains the fever and she has diahrrea) and the rash is from the heat (we dont have ac and its h.o.t.)

  • We had roseola last week.

Fever for 3 days.  Fever broke, and rash broke out.  It was mostly on his trunk, with some on his forehead.  The rash was gone after 3 days.

FWIW, DS1 has HF&M right now.  And, I think it's coming on for DS2 as well.  DS1's fever started on Sunday of last week, the sores started on Thursday.  DS2 started with a fever last night, and I just found a sore on his face.

Also, despite the fact that nothing I read said that HF&M is accompanied by vomiting, both of my boys have been vomiting.  DS1 started vomiting on Sunday, and DS2 started vomiting yesterday with his fever.

There's a distinct difference in the rashes.  The HF&M look like blisters/sores.  Could maybe be confused with a bug bite...  maybe.  But, there's NO mistaking one (roseola) for the other (HF&M).

  • My DD had Roseola a few months ago. I thought she was severely having teething issues. but nope.. fever, low appetite, then rash!  our pedi told us it was like the chicken pox where you usually just get it once, but kids can get it up to like 7 years old.  We were also told it's contagious and to keep her away from other kids till her rash was gone.
