who still consumes caffeine? I saw the post below about what people would kill for and I saw a lot of pepsi and other caffeinated beverages listed. I drink a pop every single day. That or a blended coffee. My Dr. is fine with me consuming caffeine and I didn't drink any in the 1st trimester when miscarriage was a greater risk.

It kind of makes me feel guilty that I've been indulging in pop when others haven't....hopefully my baby is healthy...

I have at least 1 soda a day, sometimes root beer or gingerale which are caffeine free but other times i have other types.

  • I tried during first trimester and made it to 8 wks, lol..  I am a sweet tea lover (which has caffeine in it!) and I have it everyday for lunch.  I try to only drink 1 serving.  I noticed after lunch LO was moving a lot.  So one day I didn't drink it and he still moved a lot, so that answered that, lol..  I also drank sweet tea during first pregnancy as well.  I am not a coffee drinker, but every now and then I indulge in a frappe from McDonald's.  That is the only thing I haven't allowed myself this pregnancy.  But I've drank sodas and tea.

  • I had 1-2 caffeinated beverages a day.  Usually 1.  I tried to quit, but got horrendous headaches, way worse than before pregnancy.  It's nowhere close to 200mg/day.

I've had a cup of half caff every day, including 1st tri. There is absolutely no reason not to.

No, I thought it was strange too. I was told no more than 200mg a day. That is like 4 sodas if you really push it (also about 1.5 cups of coffee). I got that crazy once at a friend's graduation party since I wasn't drinking. I stray away from caffeine now because it makes LO crazy and he beats the crap out of my stomach.

I agree with this. My doc said even 8 oz a day is okay :) And I've been splurging on coffee here and there (not too much because I am alwasy dehydrated...>.>...yeah not so great at drinking 64 oz a day). But I never over induldge but I didn't have any caffine for 3 months in the beginning! My mom did everything with all of us (there are 5 children) and we're all fine! They keep finding new things to make us mommies frightened of. Like honey? You can have honey. BABIES can't have honey! Silly people.

    It's soda... ;).

Isnt it funny how people living in different regions of the world talk so differently? Some say pop and some say soda. I think both of those sound strange because around where I'm from we call all types of "soda" cokes. Example: "hey what types of coke do y'all have?"

Even within a small area...here in Milwaukee, it's "soda" but an hour away in Madison, and the rest of the state mostly, it's "pop."

I suffer headaches as well and since I couldn't take my regular prescription for them anymore, I've continued drinking coffee since day one.  I cut back, however, to the 200 mg or less rule, but it's still enough to take the edge off.

  • I've still been drinking soda/tea. I would still be drinking coffee, but one cup is never enough and I'd rather not tease myself with it.

  • Your not the only one, I didn't drink much caffeine before I got pregnant and I drink about the same amount now. I do try to stay away from soda (though I am drinking a root beer as I write this because it sounded delicious) the only reason I don't drink it is because the sugar makes me swell.

From what I have read the real risk with caffeine is mostly in the 1st trimester and the last few weeks. In the 1st trimester the caffeine can inhibit your iron levels which can create problems, and when you use caffeine in the last few weeks your baby can have withdrawals when they are born (unless you are breastfeeding and keep consuming caffeine then they can get it that way)

  • You are definitely not the only one! I have one cup of tea or coffee a day most days, and I have since about the middle of my second trimester. I was told 200mg a day is the limit, and I've stuck to that. No worries.
