Video Monitors

We are expecting our first child in November, and I have been looking at baby monitors.  I was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations for monitors, specifically video monitors.  I have looked at a few, and all have good and bad reviews, just trying to decide which one I want to go with, or if I will just go with the "old fashioned" audio monitor and forgo the video.  Thanks for the feedback!

    I think the "need" for a video monitor depends on your setup at home.  DD is across the house and on a different floor.  If I had to go check on her everytime I heard a noise, I would be up all night!  

    We have a summer infant baby touch and love it.  It expands to multiple cameras and will scan between them, playing audio for all of them (some cameras you have to manually switch between cameras and/or they only play audio on one.)

    It also allows you to pan and scan to get the best viewing angle.  My SIL visited and used our monitor because dd was still in our room at the time.  She has the summer infant day and night and really wished she had the better features that came with ours.

    I believe we have the summer infant sleek and secure or something like that. I love having a video monitor, quite possibly one of our favorite baby items.

    Thank you for all the info.  I really love being able to ask questions on this site and get honest feedback from other mommies!  I've been looking at the Summer Infant brand, they looked good, so it's nice to hear from people who have actually used them!

    We don't have LO yet - but I have to say that, from the testing we've done, it's pretty awesome. I like that we can use a remote to direct the camera (probably useful when baby's bigger and can roll around in the crib).

    We have a Motorola video monitor (Motorola Digital Video Baby Monitor with 3.5 Inch Color LCD Screen) and it is awesome.  Very good picture quality, even at night, and the sound is fantastic.  I can't speak for longevity since we've only been using it a few months, but so far, it seems very worth the money.
