Logan has a very mild case of cradle cap in just one spot on his head. It doesn't look bad but he scratches it constantly! Last night he slept no more than an hour at a time waking up from scratching.
Anyway, my doctor said to cover his head in vaseline for several hours, lol! He looks ridiculous and I'm trying not to let his head touch anything. I have never heard about this cure but let's hope it works!
Re: My baby is covered in vaseline!
M DD has had it twice and it was hard to get rid of because she has a good amount of hair. Here is what we did: Put baby oil on her scalp and rub it pretty good. Then we used a baby comb to remove as much of the flakes as possible. Next, we put her in the bathtub and washed it off.
The first time we didn't wash the oil out very well so the second time I made sure that stuff was all gone.
It worked awesome and it really wasn't too hard. I am sure vaseline will help too but this was much better than sitting greasy for a few hours.
We did this but with with Vaseline. It worked the 1st time and never came back. GL!
we tried Vaseline, olive oil, and baby oil when Emily was only a few weeks old. She had it badly her whole head was covered and her neck/ behind her ears. Nothing helped. Finally the pedi figured out she is alergic to 90% of tha materials she was laying on, touching, wearing...polyster.
After we switched everything and used the lotion the doctor prescribed...it was gone within a day.
I am sure this isnt your problem because you would know it, she was completely covered, her face was so red and blotchy.
I just wanted you to know I understand how gross it was/is. I just layed her on a blanket (before she could move) and then threw the blanket in the washer.
No, I don't think it's anything that is bad or even needs to be treated if it doesn't bother him. He's actually had it in the same area for months now but we didn't do anything because he was always fine, it wasn't spreading (still isn't) and it doesn't look bad or anything. It's just the past week that he started scratching at it. He was scratching so much it started to bleed so we need a solution!
We did the olive oil too! It seemed to work really well and I even noticed his head looking a little clearer. But he continues to scratch at it... I guess we will see.
Thanks for all the advice, I'll be trying it all if this doesn't work!
