Cloth Diapering

Is it ridiculous to put a cover over a sposie?

I'm preparing for a beach trip and considering all of my options for diapering. One suggestion I've heard a few times is to put a cover over a sposie to prevent blowouts/leaks. At first, this seemed ingenious! Then I thought about the 100 degree weather we've been having... Would the PUL over the sposie make it extra hot for a LO? Have any of you tried this on your beach vacation? TIA!

  • I don't think it's ridiculous but sposies are not very breathable to begin with so PUL will probably only make it worse.  I guess it's better than double diapering (I suggested putting a PUL cover over a sposie to someone who was considering this).  When we went on vacation and needed disposable stuff, we used the disposable Flip liners with Flip covers. I felt like I was still getting to partially CD but got the benefits of sposies.

  • We use a cover over a disposable diaper overnight right now.  My son is tubefed overnight and gets too much liquid for any sposie to handle.  Eventually we'll be CDing exclusively, but for now, while we use up the diapers we already have, the cover is helping :)

  • Why not just try the sposie by itself first and see if its even an issue? I used sposies for 3 months and had only one blowout and no leaks. Honestly, I've had more leaks with cloth.
  • Not ridiculous. My pedi asked me about covers and brands because she had another patient who wanted a cover to Hoover sposies, lol. I do think it'd be pretty hot, though, in that weather. Maybe try without first like PP suggested and see how it goes.

  • Thanks for the replies. :) I doubt I'll end up doing that (except maybe at night?), but I just wanted to hear your thoughts. Today I'm testing out Flip covers with disposable gDiaper inserts (I have a sh!t ton left over from the great gDisaster, lol). I may also try some "natural" sposies and see what works best.

FTR, I never have leaks in cloth... but the pooptastrophes from using sposies long ago still haunt me! ;)

    Thanks again!
