What is something that is common knowledge at your work
but will surprise the rest of us?
I used to be a barista, and a lot of people were surprised to learn that for drip coffee, the dark roast actually has the least amount of caffeine. The light roast has the most.

Getting a patent doesn't mean that the item/medication/whatnot getting the patent actually works. It just means it hasn't been patented before.

Credit Unions and banks are completely different animals and you'll get shanked for suggesting otherwise.
You do not pay your bills to the accounts payable department. Accounts payable pays the company's bills. You send your bill payment to the accounts receivable department. This may not surprise any of you intelligent ladies but none of our customers seem to grasp this concept.
The seams on a home's siding are called butt joints. Certain types of siding require these butt joints to be filled with caulk. How my male coworkers sat through a meeting regarding this without cracking a smile is beyond my dirty little mind.
I have always worked with the elderly. You would be amazed how many of the patients do not have family come and visit them.
They just let them die alone or they come in and treat them like shiit, demanding things or money. And the 90 year old grandma or grandpa will just cry, because they haven't lost their mind they know that their children are douchebags!
Oh and I worked at McDonalds when I was 15...I know what they do to those chicken nuggets.

College athletics (in NC) receive zero money from the state.
College tuition covers your cost of being at a public school for about 5 months.
Probably another no-brainer for people with common sense, but things people couldn't seem to grasp when they called:
1) When you call 9-1-1 from a cell phone, we don't automatically know where you are. Many agencies have the ability to plot a general location, but sometimes it takes a minute or two. So when you're broken down on the freeway, try to pay attention to your surroundings and/or exit numbers and mile markers. When the dispatcher asks you what you see around you, telling them "bridges and trees" doesn't really help anyone. (These are real answers I've had more times than I care to admit. You'd be amazed by the stupid crap people say.)
2) Dispatchers don't have crystal balls that can answer questions like "How much longer till the police get here?" or "What's taking them so long?"
I can think of plenty more, but it gets pretty long winded.

Outback Steakhouse does not make that bread - it comes frozen from somewhere and we put it in a warmer thingy ( Iworked there in high school and college).
As a follow-up to CG, getting a patent takes several years and costs tens of thousands of dollars - not to mention maintenance fees for keeping the patent alive after it issues.
Calico cats are always female (there is one very rare chromosomal exception).
Intact male dogs get really ugly big bum holes as they age.
There are very.few actual life threatening emergencies in veterinary medicine.

Most times (not all times), lengthly feature articles in a major newspaper/magazine are not printed as the author orginially submitted it. So don't get mad at the writer.
The articles get the crap edited out of them by editors. And sometimes thru the editing process, the article is slanted towards the way the magazine editors and advertisers want it to print.
And this also goes for the topic of the article and the sources quoted within - many times the topic and sources are assigned to the writer by an editor, who many times is directed by the publisher. So, again, don't get mad at the WRITER for the subject of the article.
There are maps that exist that intentionally mislead people. It's all done with shapes, color, and how the cartographer/designer places empahsis.
Also, blue is the most preferred color by people/viewers when it comes to design.

"No Child Left Behind" doesn't mean that schools "aren't allowed to fail kids". Although students rarely are held back any more (even when they fail classes), it's not because of NCLB.
A "failing school" is sometimes on "the list" because one small sub group failed a portion of one test.
Why? I mean, what purpose does misleading people serve?
This can happen in many cases where mineral/oil/etc. rights are severed. Same with airspace.
I think this really depends on the person. I was not an egg donor but I did do IVF to get pregnant with N and to be honest, I found the whole process completely fascinating and sort of fun. It wasn't hard either emotionally or physically for me.

No I get that. And maybe it's because I did go through it with the goal of a child in mind, but I can honestly say I would do it in a heartbeat just to donate if I weren't so old. I didn't think the process was super lengthy or uncomfortable or anything like that. But I can certainly see how donating is not for everyone.

I worked at DD too in HS! Except it was so long ago that They actually made the donuts there in the store, and we used real eggs that you would have to cook in a pan. Ah, the good old days.

You could argue that this map was created to make it look like there were way WAY more republican voters, due to the immense amount of red. But if you look at the actual data and take population density into account, it's not necessarily the case. We all know that was a close election.
Of course, I can't argue it's INTENTIONAL since, I don't know the source....but, you might see some differences between say, MSNBC political maps and Fox News maps.

You can shoplift from Gap in full view of employees as long as they are not managers or loss prevention people. They are not allowed to openly confront you about it or follow you.
If you're applying for a home loan mod, employees will pass your sob story letters around the office if they think you're full of sh*t.
You can not sell cases of beer below retail cost in certain counties. You can not advertise the sale of wine in dry counties, but you can show an image of a glass of wine and write about how wonderful it is.
