Re: New OBGYN Needed - Shanon Forseter Reviews

  • Dr. Forseter is great!! I started seeing him last September after issues with my previous OBGYN. I have had 2 miscarriages this past year and Dr. Forseter has been very supportive and determined to make sure that my husband and I have a healthy baby. Another positive for him and his office is that they do ultrasounds every day, Dr. Forseter is the one that does the ultrasounds himself so there is no guessing or waiting game. They also draw blood work right then and there and he will run the tests stat to get them back the same day as long as there is time. His office is also open late on Tuesdays which is great for the working female. He is always quick to respond to phone calls and emails and is always positive. His bedside manners are second to none. One last positive that I can think of is that he delivers at most hospitals in the area so you have your choice for delivery. I truly love Dr. Forseter!

  • Thank you so much for your response...have you delivered yet or know someone who has? Your review is basically what everyone has been raving about, but I'm curious how he feels about leave once the baby is born. My current doc said since my preg has been healthy, he said he doesn't see why after delivery would be any different so 6 weeks would be enough time with baby. I'm already so anxious about how life will be once baby is here that his side comment of "you'll have 18 yrs to spend time with your child", totally rubbed me the wrong way! Something alittle more reassuring would have been nice!

  • I have not delivered yet, I am only 7 weeks pregnant but am completely confident with having Dr. Forseter as my doctor and one guiding me through the delivery. As far as leave goes, I have never talked to him about that as that is really based from what my work's short term disability agreement is. From what I understand it isn't really up to your doctor on how much maternity leave your work offers you. The company I work for gives us 6 weeks for vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for a c-section however I can take up to a maximum of 12 weeks (which I think is required by law but that doesn't mean that the company has to pay for all 12 weeks). I will be taking a total of 12 weeks mixing the given paid leave, a little vacation time, and then unpaid leave. I would talk to you place of employment about this instead of your doctor. Now if something life threatening or you need major surgery or something after delivery than I think that is different however again that isn't really something you can plan on. Dr. Forseter is fantastic and has great bedside manners but it is all about who you feel most comfortable with.
  • We are going to Dr. Forseter too. A few of the women that meet at Kangaroo Kids off Manchester have had experiences with him if you wanted to go talk to them. I know there is a VBAC meeting the second monday of each month at 10am or 10:30 if you wanted to talk to some of the women that have delivered with him. You can also see some reviews on Vitals.com or ratemds.com and a few other sites.

Also, the doctor I left to come to Dr. Forseter was not pleased with my choice of doctor. The doctor implied that Dr. Forseter needs to have tabs kept on him which to some extent I have seen in reviews where people needed to contact him multiple times for labor and remind him of birth plans. I can understand needing to be reminded or birth plans, women should always print multiple copies to give to each nurse shift as well as the doctor but being hours late to delivery is unaccetable in my opinion. Still the negative reviews were minimal compared to the positive ones. My previous doctor also recommended I speak to the nurses at the hospitals that have dealt with him before and get their opinion. We havent done our hospital tour yet so we haven't heard anything from nurses yet.

As far as work leave is concerned, I think the other moms have basically already said it but that is a personal decision for you to make as long as you do not have any medical complications. Six weeks seems long enough to me personally. I took 8 weeks with my first baby because I was nursing but I was really ready to get back to work by the end of it because honestly I was a little bored. I guess just gauge your work load at work. You can plan on taking the max your work will pay you full salary for and see if your manager will let you decide to add time after the baby is born when you know if the baby needs some more mommy time or if going back to work seems okay.

  • Thank you...wasn't meaning how much leave I get through my job, that?s all pretty standard through FMLA, etc...I was more referring to how long this doctor writes you out for if you don?t feel comfortable going back to work right away after baby is here.  Say you have a normal delivery, which would be 6 weeks of paid leave..., but your doctor could write you out for an additional period of time, say two more weeks...and that then would also be covered under paid leave since wrote as ?medically necessary?, then you would flip to vacation/unpaid leave up to 12 weeks off total.  With my current doctor...his response of him saying he didn?t think I would need more than 6 weeks was a red flag because depending on nursing/baby weight gain, etc, might not be comfortable leaving her just yet.  I don?t know...I?m just an anxious person and having him say that scared me to death.  He has also made other "mistakes" as in telling me things are completely normal when they truly were not..so I don?t really trust his judgment as it is.  Thank you again for your response.

  • Oh I see what you mean. I am not sure if he would but he seems like the type that would. We go back Tuesday for our next appt, I will go ahead and ask him because I would like to know the same thing.

  • Just met with him for my "meet & greet"...he seems like a great doctor.  I also totally trust that he will listen to me with any concerns during and AFTER birth...how relieving!! Thank you again for your comments/input!
