Sleep training & flat head...HELP!!

When DD was smaller she had had a head/neck preference to one side and caused little bit of flat head. Glady she has been doing great with her head/neck and therefore has alleviated the pressure on that one flat spot. Pedi said at her last appt that it looks amazing.

We have started sleep training and it has been great in the sense that she won't CIO only fusses to get to sleep so far. However, I'm worried about her flat head again. She spends more time now flat on her back trying to fall asleep on her own plus nap time. Any suggestions on how to try to avoid flat head while sleep training? Unfortunately, she does not roll over so is not a belly sleeper. We used to roll a swaddle and use it behind her and prop her to one aide when she was smaller.  That doesn't work anymore.

  • MAybe talk to your pedi about putting her on her belly to sleep or on her side.  I know it is not recommended but perhaps, with your doctors blessings (under the circumstances) it might help.

  • I'm curious about what sleep training is.  Sounds self-explanatory, but not sure...can you tell me about it?  My lo had/has a flat head on the back, and I found that rolling blankets to prop him didn't help because he rolled right back over them.  However, I've turned him on his side and used the edge of his boppy to keep him balanced on his side, and that works.  I don't put him in the boppy...just use the edge.  It seems to be just firm enough to keep him on his side.  I've seen a great difference in the flatness.  Give it a try!
