LO is 5 weeks old. Since day 1 shes been spitting up but its progressively gotten worse. She now projectile vomits pretty much everytime she eats. No matter how much or how little. I am an exclusive BF so its not the formula. I havent changed her diet at all. About two days ago it started smelling like real vomit and its really worrying me and grossing me out. Her pedi said its normal to throw up that shes probably just being greedy and eating more than she should. Even if i feed her a ltitle bit she pukes and then cries till i give her more. Today it even came out of her nose. I feel so bad for her. I read in a previous post to put them on their bellies and that seemed to work. She just passed out without me having to feed her more. HELP please. is this really normal???? anyone else have this problem? its gross and sad...
My LO has been spitting up quite frequently lately, but yesterday she had projectile vomit just like you described. It was horrifying. I have no idea how she even fit that much liquid in her... I think she just ate a bit too much, but it was really scary. The doctor said it is normal every once in awhile, but if it happens at every feeding then it is a problem. I'd call your doctor again and see what he says. It seems like they would need to monitor her weight very closely if this keeps up.
That doesn't sound normal to me. I agree with pp that you should look into reflux or a milk protein/lactose/food allergy issue. DS used to puke up half his bottles until we switched to a lactose free formula. Maybe try cutting out dairy for now? I think she is crying, but wanting more after spitting up/vomiting because her throat or stomach hurts and feeding soothes it (even if it is just momentarily). Follow your gut if you think something is wrong!
i guess the reason the pedi isnt concerned is because she is gaining about 2oz a day. even with the vomiting. so she cant be throwing everything up. its just very concerning. i will try the feeding smaller amounts more frequently and see if that helps. if it doesnt, i guess i will know its a real problem and not due to just over eating. thanks ladies!
DS1 projectile vomited after every feeding until about 6 months, the monitored him but were only really concerned the month he did not gain weight.
Have you talked to your pedi about reflux? Although it will not stop the vomitting it may make LO more comfortable. Also may look at a MSPI issue, if you cut dairy out of your diet does she do any better?

when babies throw up "like a fountain", it can signify pyloric stenosis, which is serious, but correctable. we were told that if you could describe it as "like a fountain", "projectile", or "shooting out", that they need to be checked asap (no, not ER visit).

hopefully, though, it's just normal puke stuff.
My little guy had this surgery at 3 weeks after he was throwing up every oz he took in. He would be face down in vomit and cry for more food. They find the problem on an ultrasound.
